I bought one of those offset mounts for a xm MYFI.The four foot magnetic mount antenna. It seems to work well if I take it off the mount and set it on the roof of my pickup. Is it possible that I am not on a good ground plane? I thought that the brake reservoir would have a good enough ground. After all it is made for it right? Any ideas out there? the dumb thing keeps on dropping the signal.

Well, from what I have figured out is that the 4 foot antennas are not that good to start with. Which ever antenna you use - do not wrap the extra wire around the offset mount. Run the extra wire up and down the handle bar inside of the cover. That worked for me and a few other riders.

I have the ant. thats about a foot long. Have XM mounted on the left side of my BMR shelf and ant. mounted with a piece of velcro to the BMR shelf (aluminum shelf so magnet won't work) and it works great.

Using the factory antenna, routed it to rear of bike, up FM mast to this nifty little mount I made of 1/8" micro ply wood capped with a piece of tin so magnet sticks.
Works fantastic & except when a mountain side in the way ... NEVER loses signal.
