I have a meeting in San Diego May 11 & 12. Since this is my first time in Calif., I extended my stay 2 days with the thought of possibly renting a bike and taking a ride. Would appreciate any info on places to rent a bike (LT would be nice, but any brand is OK), and suggestions on senic/enjoyable rides. Thanks for the help.

A member of the BMW owners club of San Diego also has a rental company. Not LTs, but they are BMWs.

LOTS of great riding in the area. If you are going to be here on a Saturday or Sunday, the BMW club has breakfast every Saturday and Sunday morning at 8:00 AM, Giovanni's restaurant, south west corner of Clairemont Mesa Blvd and Ruffin road, just west of I-15 on Clairemont Mesa. Often there are at least one ride starting after breakfast, sometimes two different groups. Warning though: The Saturday guys tend to ride pretty fast, and it is almost all TWISTY! Sunday groups sometimes take somewhat slower rides, but even then it can be unnerving for a newcomer that does not know the roads.

Check out the website: http://www.bmwocsd.org/

Click on the map at the bottom of the home page and print it out. It is a really good riding map of the area.

If you are going to ride alone, let me know and I will try to point out a couple good rides for you. I don't have a bike any longer unfortunately, or I would be showing you the area. One of the nicest motorcycle riding areas anywhere due to the HUGE amount of great twisties, scenery, etc. You can ride ALL DAY, not see the same place twice, and be in nice curves 85% of the time. Actually, you can do this for a few days, and still not see it all.

If you get a bike to rent and want a smaller group to ride in, shoot me a PM and I can show you some of our roads. Mountains, deserts and coastline, we have it all within an easy day's ride.
