Hella DE HID lights wiring question

For those that have installed the Hella DE Xenon lights- Where did you splice in the yellow/grey wire? Did you spice in the hot wire going to your bright headlight?

I would like to be able to turn these lights on and off independently of whether I have my brights or dims on. If I send the yellow/gray wire directly to the battery with a switch interposed would I then be able to the lights independent of the dimmer switch?

I have exactly the same setup you seek.

I believe we took power from the map light (switched power source) and routed it to a control (on/off) switch's 'off' position. Then from the 'on' position of the control switch, we ran a wire to the relay. By turning the control switch on, the relay would turn the lights on.

I'm not positive (pun intended) but that's what I recall.
