Being a bit of a thicko, can anyone tell me what type of intercom I have from the attached picture (sorry its a bit fuzzy) and can I attach an mp3 player for music to come out of the bike speakers?

You've got a fuzzy one :)

Sorry I can't help on the type of intercom, but I do believe that I see a cassette deck underneath it. That provides an easy pathway to getting music from an external device through the bike's stereo and speakers: Just use a cassette adapter.

Here's a quick reference to one, but they can be had cheaper:

I don't have a manual for either, so hopefully someone else can forward you a copy.

As I recall (beware -- this memory is as fuzzy as your pic!), none of those are aux inputs -- one pair is for a radio (i.e., an FRS-type walkie-talkie), and one is for cell phone (?)). In any event, I don't believe you'll be able to do what you want with this unit, as I believe its output went to the helmet headsets, not the bike speakers (i.e., the intercom is downstream of the radio).

That is correct. It is the OLD BC-1 system..I had one in my 2000lt. You can hook up an MP# but not throught the speakers in your bike, but it can go through the helmet.. Sound poor though..
I do have the OLD manual if and you are welcome to it if you would like it. ( PM me)

I did end up putting in the a new BC-3 system.. It is excellent. It does it all. CB, GPS, MPS ( through all speakers) radar detector, FRS radio and great sound and intercom. I could not be happier... ( lot's of learning and work doing it myself - but well worth it.. )

It looks like the BC2 I have on my ’00. The easiest way to connect a MP3 player is to use a cassette adaptor. You can pick one up at Radio Shack for around $20. I use the adaptor for my satellite radio and my MP3 (which I use when it’s raining and I can’t use the satellite).

to smooretime, i have a '99 with the same, but no manual. i also have a problem with it. NO sound to the helmet. Will the manual help? Please email me at davek100rt@yahoo.com. Thanks.

If I find it dead, does the BC-3 plug right in or are there any modifications necessary?

The users’ manual is just that, how to use it, what the knobs do and what plugs in where; it’s not technical. I have electronic copies of the BC2 manual if you or anyone needs them.

As for no sound in the helmets did you do any troubleshooting?
1. Pull the stingray and clean and grease the contacts.
2. Try both headset cords in both outlets.
3. With the stingray off, try plugging the headset into the connector in there. There is actually a extension cable that goes to the front for the rider and one that goes to the rear for the passenger. My rear female socket went bad and I have had to connect my wife cord directly to it. (I’m too cheap to fork out the $$ for a new connector).
