 Ok...while working on my LT last night, it fell over <cringe>. I went to move it slightly to the left by 'gently' picking up the rear and it slid forward falling off the centerstand. It fell right on my son's bike! Good thing I had all the tupperware and rear trunk off. Unfortunately, the RR saddle bag recieved a nice set of scratches (all the way down to the plastic) above the trim.
Boy am I PO'd  !!!!
What are my options?? Paint? New Cover? Band-Aid? Duct Tape? I have the Basalt Grey color.
Thanks!

I hate to hear that Larry, I had a saddle bag door painted after the LT laid over in soft asphalt and the saddle bag door hit a curb.
The local paint shop did it for $150.
I removed the door and the trim pieces and they repaired the scratches and painted the door.
Check with www.Beemerboneyard.com (http://www.beemerboneyard.com/) for availability of a used door.

I have an impala brown drivers rightside saddlebag with scratches from hitting a curb as well. I bought some touch up but it just doesn't look the same. My dealer wanted 1 hours labor to take it off and put it back on and they would send it out to paint. Figure it would cost between 200 - 300 ..
Haven't done anything about it.
Just touched it up.

$484.00 from BMW to replace it with a new painted one -
or head to your local body shop, they should probably do it for $100.00 if you hand them the piece. When I scratched mine I had quotes up to $700.00 if they had to take it off and reinstall, which is kind of a pain especially finding the right rivets to reattach the hinges. Make sure they include polishing to OEM finish standards.

Just touch it up. Scratches from a layover are sort of a "badge of honor" for LT owners, it seems. :-)
If it really bothers you, remove the part and take it to a body shop. They should be able to take care of it for you.

Fixing it @ Home is * Quite Possible *
I badly Keyed my own brand new Chevy PU while parked in the garage scootching around it.. *The Big Red Beast thing barely fits itside...
WALMART sells a touch up kit. I have included the pictures of what it looked like with only the touch up paint applied. I wiped it off and reapplied paint a few times but it still looked bad.
Then after I used the $20.00 kit purchased at Walmart and applied my own handiwork -
You cannot see any remianing scratches either in the bright sunlight or when it is cloudy. It worked great and none of the scratches remain obvious.
I was very impressed with my own handiwork!
It's worth a try, make sure you have the exact touch up paint handy!
Good luck!

Unfortunately BMW long ago decided against supplying us with OEM touch up paint.....it used to be available. I guess from a Neo-con point of view it is understandable for the $$$$ to buy the original part.:(
Bavarian Bastards.:p
Maybe it is available through auto channels - but I have never seen an Impala Brown M5 - YET.

Not sure I understand the comment.
I just bought a champagne touch up kit from my local dealer for my LT. They're available. You saying they're available for older bikes, but not newer ones?

Last month I bought a 2006 LT--Storm Gray in color. I took the bike to Accutint of Bellevue (Washington) and had them install the new Scotchgard Paint Protection 3M film on the bike. I ended up having the entire front of the fairing, lights, side panels, tank top and side bags protected. Some 30 pieces of thin 3M film and it really came out great. It is very difficult to see.
I am not sure if the 3m would have protected you in your tip over, however, I have had bad luck with rocks hitting the fairing and front fender causing significant damage. It is also easy to scratch the tank top and sides of the saddle bags.
Accutint's website and information on the product is found here. http://www.accutintseattle.com/pp/index.html Tim the installer used some 30 patterns for the LT but it came out great. He is the guy to talk with.
This is another option to protect paint from road debris and other incidental scratching. It has a 5yr warranty and will not yellow. They were also putting the film on Seattle Mariner Ichiro's 2006 Porsche GT a 500,000.000 car. My LT looked good next to it!!

Last time I checked - which has been a while - they are N/A.
If they are available for newer scoots - GOOD on BMW! :D
See attached current parts fiche which to my knowledge is current through year 2003:
Maybe your dealer had some NOS?

Your paint is available in a touch-up stick at A&S, color is "balsaltgrau", part number 51 9 0 144 522. Only $16.98 a pop!!! New side case cover is $484!!! OUCH!
Go to www.ascycles.com (http://www.ascycles.com) and click your way to the parts catalog. You can price it out on-line. It is also neat for seeing how things go together or come apart.
Ron, I think those part numbers in your attachment were for the spray cans which are no longer available.

PS>>> Colorite says they have every production motorcycle color made.
Paint comes in $16 sticks to expensive cans of paint that are exactly factory matched.....
*Problem solved..... Next!

Not quite..they don't have '02 Toscana Green. They told me they could 'maybe' formulate the color at $185 a quart in 10 days to 2 weeks.
I opted to live with the scuff.

Colorite does not seem to have my color listed on their site... :(
1-2 weeks for a touch up kit from the dealer... Don't they keep stock of this stuff??
Geez...

Ron,
I have a 2000 champagne LT, and purchased the "417 Champagner met." touch-up kit. The part number is 51910144551, which is a different part number than what your chart shows for 417 champagne. Maybe they changed the part numbers. At any rate, the touch kits for older bike are certainly available. NOS or no NOS. ;-)

As far as the Toscana Green is concerned, Colorite said 'BMW will not release the formulation for this paint code'.

An idea you might try: Get some of the 3M reflective tape, 8"x10" sheets are available and create a pattern to cover any scratches or just cover the emtire lower saddlebags, below the chrome strip. Will create more visibility at night and cover any scratches. cost about $18.00
