Me thinks the "born on" date is today. JMHO, but we might not get any news for awhile once that danged BBS starts!

Keep an eye out for, I believe, a RED RT with some guy riding it with the biggest goofiest grin ya ever saw!!!

That would be he, sire!

Only, I don't think he has returned from going to the convenience store early this morning...

Indeed it is true. I picked up my new baby Tuesday and rode it home with the big grin to which you referred. It is sooooooooo sweet. It fits me just perfectly and is incredibly easy to handle.

You had the color wrong, Hawg. It is dark graphite with all the goodies one can put on it including the GPS , phone system, XM radio, etc.

One interesting twist though. The CB I originally ordered was canceled and now waiting on a back order for the new one that, as I understand it, has it's own autocom built into it and when installed it will perform exactly as the LT. In other words, everything on the bike will go through my headsets without interference noises creating problems others have experienced. I am really excited by the advertised improvement.

I do have one major problem: The wife loves my new RT so much that now she is insisting that I get her a red one with all the same goodies. Dang!!! Now what do I do??

I know much has been said concerning the negative points of the new RT but I must say that this is the first bike I have ever owned that fits me like a glove AND I can still have all the goodies I fell in love with on my LT.

Hey Dragon, when is the new GS expected?

Congrats on the New Ride Larry! and get the New Doctor a purdy Red one! She deserves it http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

Talked to Dusty this afternoon; it's on the truck in route, no way to tell in what order the dealership stops are arranged.
Could arrive tomorrow or next Thursday.
Gives me more time to round up my Farkle list, well actually there is a needed item or five like the Throttle Lock I ordered today and I'll need a set of Paniers, leaning toward Jesse Bags. Got to get the seat out to Rick Mayer or Brother Ron for some Butt Aaaaahhhh!

I'm planning three IBA rides at the moment, 50CC, B2B and UCC! I got to get the new steed dressed for success. http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif
Shes a gonna needa name too!

I have some kin folk that live in Donalsonville. Do you know any of the
Shamblin's that live there. They live in the Little Hope community.

Congrats on the new ride, for 20 years I rumbled through Donaldsonville driving a freight train from Montgomery Al. to Thomasville Ga. and back. Remember once a truck loaded with big boxes of watermelons was trying to beat me to the crossing going to the market, one of the boxes fell off in center of RR track, when I hit it it spewed water melon seeds, rind and pulp over half of D'ville, we had to stop at Saffold and wash the locomotive windshield.

Yep, think I know them all. Jack and Ruth, Tim and his wife, Terry and Becky--all great people.

Chockkicker,

You would be surprised how many people try to beat that crossing. Right now I think the score is Train=15, Others=0. It was not long ago that a large beer truck stalled on the track. The driver got out safely but beer was everywhere. People just don't seem to learn.

For a small, rural community we seem to have an awful lot of accidents. Friday night, four miles from my home way out in the country, five people were killed in one single accident after an RV ran one of those country stop signs which was difficult to see.

Don't you guys just love the new RT???? It is absolutely the best bike I have ever owned. It seems to do everything exceptionally well.

I hope everyone has a safe holiday.

Larry,

Congratulations on the new bike. I took mine a couple of weeks ago and unfortunately the work issue came up and I've only got about 350 miles on it. I do love it so far though.

I have a question about the CB you referred to. When I get the 600 mile checkup, I was going to pick up a CB and my free Nav III. What is the brand and model of CB you are getting? That sounds exactly like what I want.

Thanks,

Jimmy

Jimmy,

The CB is the BMW/Intercom Communicator (Com II Plus) for RT. The part number is 71 60 0 412 987. The instruction manual says "The Com II Plus includes a 40 channel CB radio with an integrated 10 channel weather radio. A full duplex rider-to-passenger intercom with VOX activation means you'll enjoy natural sounding conversations with your pillion passenger. The Com II Plus will also manage additional audio inputs including the factory installed radio or personal audio device of your choice, GPS Navigator and other auxiliary audio warning devices you may wish to install."

Mine works like a dream without even installing an extra antenna. The GPS and XM radio run through it.

If you have any questions, I will be happy to try to answer them.

Do all BMW dealers have this device? I have wanted to install a CB on my 2005 RT and did not know they were available through BMW.

You say this device also has XM radio, as well.

I have searched the online BMW dealers and have not been able to locate the device.

Which dealer was it purchased from and do they ship out of state (to NC)?

William,

I bought mine through Miller BMW in Tallahassee, FL. I believe J & M makes the unit for BMW and I believe it is a dealer item only although I stand to be corrected. As I understand it, the CB has an autocom built into it and three items can be connected via the CB. My GPS and XM radio go through the CB autocom into my helmet speakers. The XM is a separate unit but the volume is controlled by the "wheel" on top of the CB. The GPS is controlled separately (by its own unit) and the sound simply is routed through the CB autocom part. I hope this makes sense.

It all works perfectly.

If you will PM a fax number to me, I will send you the front page of the owner's manual which will tell you just about everything you need to know as well as show you a very good picture of the unit.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can offer any additional help.

Side Note: The CB works so well that I have not found a need to add the typical dedicated CB antenna to the bike. I may decide to do it at a later date "just for show" but for right now I will leave it as is. The internal antenna works perfectly for me.

Larry,

Sorry, I don't have a fax.

Perhaps I will give the BMW dealer a call to get the particulars.

I have a J&M headset device that I use for bike-to-bike communications via a Kenwood FRS, but I don't have a way to connect any other gadgets like an XM radio or an MP3 player. I have tried to follow the threads about the AutoComm, but those guys start talking about installing relays and fuse boxes and it goes beyond my level of electrical knowledge.

I am looking for a plug and play device that doesn't require an Electrical Engineering degree to install

It would be great to have a CB.

Bill
