I went to Cycle gear in Tacoma today so they could mount my new front tire. They asked me where I bought the tire and I replied the internet. They charge 30 bucks to mount and balance a tire bought elsewhere and 15 bucks if you bought from them. The guy takes me over to the tire rack and found a couple of BT 020's. The sticker said 99 bucks. Thats about what I paid at southwest Moto. Add the Governors share and their tire comes to 122 bucks out the door. My southwest moto tire out the door ended up being about 129 out the door. They also offer a road hazard warrantee if you purchased the tire from them. I can both save money and support the local merchant, very unusual. I think I'll go there next time. On a sad note, the really nice and helpful manager from that store just passed away at home recently. He was a real stand up guy. Not very old either. So, live for today my friends....

I was told about a local shop in SoCal that sells & mounts tires for within $10 of Internet prices, so I went there for my last Avon/BT020 combo. The tires came in fast, they were very pleasant to deal with, and the tech didn't mind me hovering while I explained how to mount tires over my SmarTire sensors. I'll go back for my next set.

Can't seem to remember their name now though. Good thing I have it written down at home.

Ken,
I think the question is, Do you remember where home is? I may have to try the Avon front next time. It sure is nice having new shoes. I changed all the fluids this week and she is running smoooooth.

Did they have the correct weight rated rear tire in stock? That would be very interesting to know, since it only is called for on the K1200LT - As far as I know.

Steve,
I think it was. It was a radial and I asked about the the bias ply and he said they would order any tire I wanted.

I thought it was bad gas, but a fresh fuel filter and two tanks later and it still shows up now and then. And with my current work schedule, I've had no time to look for it (or ride much, either). You know what they say, mechanics always have the worst-maintained vehicles. :)

Was that $15 for mounting the tire with the tire on or off the bike?

That would be 15 bucks tire off the bike.
