On Saturday April 29th the Pathway Riders are going to ride the Joshua Tree loop. Melva and I rode it last Saturday. The ride was about 230 miles, and including three stops and a meal and took 6 hours riding at the speed limit. We had great weather. We will stop at the rest stop near Whitewater, get fuel at Chiriaco Summit, eat at the Carousel Restaurant in Twenty-Nine Palms, take a short break in White Water again, and return to Redlands.

On our ride we expected to see lots of wild flowers. There were some on the way, but very few in the park. This has been an exceptionally dry year at Joshua Tree. There is a $10 fee for motorcycles at the park entrance. It's always good to have sunscreen and water when traveling in the desert.

We will meet at the church parking lot at 8:30 and leave at 9 am. We're on the corner of Redlands Blvd and Cypress Ave in Redlands. Take the University exit, turn right and take University to the end - that's Cypress Avenue. Make a right and the redlight is Redlands Blvd. The church is on the right. Make a right on Redlands Blvd and turn right into our parking lot. The address is 611 E. Cypress Avenue. You will see us gathering at the patio area.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Blessings,
garyj

That is a nice ride. The San Diego BMWOA club makes a trip there about once a year, I have been only once, but really enjoyed it.

For anyone interested, Chiriaco Summit is also the home of the General Patton mueseum, interesting to visit.

Patton trained his troops in the area for the Desert campaign against Rommel. When you fly over the area, you can STILL see the tank tracks in the desert around there.

When I was flying for a hobby, I flew into that airport a couple of times.

Hi Gary! Since you sold your LT, what do you ride these days?

Hi Gilles,

A R1200RT. I looked at a number of bikes and ended up with this one. It is much lighter and my knee does well with it. It's not quite as smooth as the LT, but not a lot different. It responds quicker and is very comfortable. I really like the 6 speed transmission, electronic suspension adjustment, and removable cases. Hope you are able to ride with us this week.

Blessings,

Growing up in Adelanto (in the 70s); I wish I could join you for the ride. Joshua Tree brings back a lot of memmories.

Have fun

Hello Gary,

This is my "Daddy weekend" so no riding for me. I would have loved to come as this sounds like a great ride.
We just got back from Cambria and that was fun to see over 20-25 bikes (mostly LTs) at the same Inn.
Looking forward to riding with your group again.

Gary,
I'm trying to go in this one. Eliane is on call tonight, so we will have to leave late.
From my house to Chiriaco Summit is abou 100 miles. Since I will not need gas for the whole ride, my idea is to be waiting for your group at the entrance of the park (about 5 miles BEFORE the Chiriaco Summit, so I'm assuming you guys will go there get gas and back to the park entrance).
But just in case me miss it, were is this Carousell Restaurant?

Yes, we will stop for gas and go back to the south entrance. We will also stop for a bit before that at the Whitewater rest stop. The Carousel restaurant is on route 62 a couple of miles out of Twenty-nine Palms. It's on the left (South Side). I believe the address is 72317 29 Palms Hwy, Twentynine Palms, CA.

Hope to see you and Eliane sometime tomorrow.

Blessings,

I just got back from Laughlin, used all back roads, stopped at Carousel rest. and then through Joshua...Fee is $5.00 for a bike, not a lot of flowers but a BEAUTIFUL ride. Beware of loose sand in a few spots.....Enjoy

It was a safe and good day. Good to see you and Eliane again. I didn't think the extra time for Keys View would work out. I couldn't say anything, but Joe (the Yamaha twin) is having a surprise birthday party this afternoon and we had to be there. His wife told him she needed him home by 3 to go out - so we were under the gun for time. Hope to see you next time. I will post the next ride here.
