Hello to central east from north east! I'm planning a visit this Thursady thru Sunday with the wife. She did a little research and found Fredricksburg and Culpepper, VA and thought they looked like nice towns to visit. We're looking for a small downtown to shop and walk around, get lunch and just enjoy the atmosphere. We're coming down from NJ, staying with friends in Westminster, MD, then on to Fredricksburg and Culpepper. From there up to Winchester. Probably going to take the Skyline Drive to Winchester. Any thoughts on these towns? Nice to visit and walk around? Thanks for the help.

Downtown Fredricksburg is nice to walk around. Some nice places to eat also. Mortons BMW is one exit past the Fredricksburg exit on I-95. They are located on Rt 1. I do not know much about Culpepper.
Good Riding!

Hey,
Culpepper doesn't have much of a downtown but they do have some real good restaurants. Most everything is on Davis St. Not Main as would be expected. Davis crosses Main. There is a cool old hardware store on Davis. It's About Thyme is a good lunch stop.
Go here for a good list:

You can also stop at Bob's BMW and see his extensive collection. Right off I-95 at the MD Rt. 32 exit, east, about 12 miles south of Baltimore. Just be careful of the traffic in the Washington DC area on I-95.

There is a restaurant (BBQ?) that is by the river in Fredricksburg just off of Hwy 1, When you get done there, there is an ice cream place down the road and across the street from the river (creek-whatever) that you walk up to, order and eat it in the parking lot or your car; everytime we've been there for Rolling Thunder we stop and ice cream there. IT has been at that location for quite a while!
You may want to also take a look at Charlottsville (spelling-who cares), VA.

Thanks for the help guys. I think we will look into Charlottsville and maybe skip Culpepper. Not so sure the wife wants to tour BMW dealerships, but good to know they are close.

Tell the little lady that Bob's BMW is right around the corner from the Savage Mill Antique mall with about a zillion little shops. Charlottsville is great but crawlin' with college kids this time of year.

That's the good thing about goin' on the bike. She can shop all day, but there is no where to put anything! The scariest thing I ever heard her say at one of those shops was "Do you ship?" !! I think we are going to wing it. Go through Fredricksburg, Charlottsville, Culpepper, Winchester, Lexington and Staunton. If it looks interesting we'll stop, maybe just have lunch, maybe stay the night. If the weather holds up it should be fun.

Made it to Westminster, MD and a visit with friends there, but after looking at the weather coming to VA, we decided to spend a day in Gettysburg then head home. Glad we did as the rain came down pretty hard. We'll just have to plan another time. Thanks for all the help.
