I was wondering if there were any BMW dealerships in the Los Angeles area?

We have several good dealers. West Valley Cycles in Winnetka, Browns Motor Works in Pomona, Irv Seavers in Orange, Long Beach BMW, and we aren't all that far from other dealers in Ventura, San Bernardino and San Diego. If you're heading this way one of us can help out as well.

Great, let us know when you get here. You're more than welcome to join any service parties or rides we happen to be up to.

Careful with your RT-P in California. Those blue and red lights will definitely get you in trouble. You will need to change them out to amber or cover them up if riding it on the streets.

Sorry, to vague on that one. I was referring to Malcom Smith which is actually in Riverside but close enough to be handy for our brethren in San Bernadino. Not sure how it works for Redlands.

I knew about Malcome Smith's in Riverside just never heard of a dealer in San Bernardino. Thought there might be a new place to visit. Thanks.

I also dislike them. Bad experiences every time. It's worth the ride out to Brown Motor in Pomona.

Last week they called me and asked me to come pick my bike up as it was ready (after taking the tranny out to have the stand mounts re-welded to the tranny casing).
The bike was washed and buffed, started without trouble and the radio finally worked. I was so excited... after over 3 months! Then I shited into first gear and the bike stalled. Broken side-stand switch they forgot to replace. But worse of all, that tells me that they did not even bother to test ride the bike before turning it over to me! . I also noticed they forgot to replace the chrome cover for the exhaust, and a new scratch on the tupperware just below the saddle.
I started doing business with the dealer in Newburry Park, exclusive BMW!!!
They chuckle every time they hear "Honda of Hollywood". I think they call it the "referral" dealer. :D

All I can say is that your experience w/ HOH could not be further from my experiences over the past 3 years with them.

Ted, I'm glad you've had good luck with them but Gilles experiences have been shared by several of us. They have shown lack of BMW specific knowledge in the parts department and the service department left me hanging and caused a missed vacation. That was the last straw, I won't give them another chance to screw up my day.

Ted, I was wondering if you had any experience with BMW of Ventura County. I am giving them a try, and so far so good.:thumb: They actually lend you a bike while yours is being serviced, while Honda of Hollywood laughed at me when I asked about a loaner.

I bought a battery tender from Newbury Park about a year ago before going on an extended vacation.
As I've said in my previous posts, HOH has done everything one could expect from a dealer. I have not had any major repair work done there as you have, but they have always completed their scheduled maintenance in one day. They would even drive me to work and pick me up afterwards.
I had to leave my 1987 Ninja with them for several months while they searched for a part that was no longer produced. When the work was completed, the bike was returned to me in pristine condition.
I'm sure the new dealer in Newbury Park is good, however, I really have no reason to switch, because I had received nothing but courteous, competent and timely service from Hollywood of Honda.

Not even to save 40 miles? Never mind, it is an LT, after all. :)
BMW Ventura has been good to me so far. Nothing major, just a few parts and some accessories, gloves, etc. They were fun at last year's BMW-only track day, and offered up their space and shade to several of us. Plus I've heard good things about BMR (same owners) and I know those guys can ride. Pete's GS in particular is fully functionally farkled and fun just to ogle. And I've bought a couple of used BMW's from George when he was at RPM, so that ongoing relationship is good to have.
I have had to wait a couple of days for some parts orders which isn't unusual, especially while setting up a new store. The only annoyance is that they were out of valve buckets, while I had my bike all apart and needed to be on the road the next day. Still, the service manager was as helpful as he could be even though none of his mechanics had any stashed aside. Of course, West Valley BMW was out as well, so I ended up going to RPM for those.
At this point, I don't have a problem buying stuff from BMW Ventura, even if Chicago BMW is a little cheaper. I do my own services, but will let them flush my brakes when they're due again. And I'll most likely buy my next BMW there, assuming they can make me a fair deal. You can bet I'll be back for test rides though. :D

Ted, as long as you are happy with your dealer you have absolutely no reason to change. I just wish I had the same experience as HOH is only 10 miles from me... This would have been very convenient.

I have attempted to buy no less than 4 different bikes at Honda of Hollywood, and each time walked away to buy somewhere else. I've recounted it here before, but I just don't see any reason to put any of my dollars into their till. The general attitude around that place is that if you don't buy something, someone else will. No big deal. I don't like that. I travel up to Ventura, and get great service. Ventura did screw up some things, that required me several trips out there, but I'll gladly do that for nice people that care. If they don't, I won't. I've also had great luck with Brown, and as far as I can tell, you have to put some miles on between you and good service if you live in LA.

A lot has to do with the relationship you have with your dealer. Clearly Ted has made some good contacts with HOH while you made good contacts at Ventura. I've seen complaints posted here about my favorite two dealers that don't sound anything like what I've experienced but I understand were they're coming from. Years ago I had an issue with Browns. When I complained my concerns were trivialized and the owner basically blew me off. Had I had the relationship with Browns I enjoy with my current dealer the outcome would have been better for both of us. I would have felt I was a valued customer and Browns would still have me as a loyal customer. There is nothing wrong with their shop, just one mechanic who made a careless mistake. On the rare occasions I have had a problem at Irv Seavers they have promptly apologized, dealt with it, and thanked me for being understanding which is probably a big factor in the service I get. Had I gone in there yelling and screaming I would have lost some cooperation, especially the time I found damage that had occured during service over a year ago. They could have said sorry, that's way out of warranty but they chose to help me out. Take the time to get to know your dealers staff and when problems occur, and they will, you'll be able to work it out as friends.

So far Butch at Ventura has taken care of all my issues. Something HOH or Long Beach would not. Great atmosphere every time I walk in. Can't beat the Starbucks Coffee if nothing else.....

Before you give them too much credit. Let me share my nightmare. I took the K in for the 24000 mi service and to get some shipping damage fixed (I just moved here and the mover damaged the windshield mount). Anyway that 4 day repair is on it's 4th week. The tech never bothered to test drive the bike so they missed a couple things that should have been fixed in the 24000 service. In my mind to add insult to the whole matter is that Hollywood had quoted the job for $500 less. I decided to go to Ventura BMW (in Newburry Park) because they were closer and I like to stay local. BIG MISTAKE.... next time I'll try Hollywood.
Actually I usually do most of my own service, but I'm waiting to get into a new house.

Actually I do my own wrenching as well, but that was work covered by the other guy's insurance. My bike was at HOH from early December until last Friday, with the exception of a couple of weeks in February while they were waiting for more parts.
I guess we need another BMW in the L.A. area... Maybe I should open my own, perhaps independent.:bmw:

The service dept. at Hollywood and their sister store in North Hollywood is excellent! Sales dept. is a different story. Buy 'em elsewhere but service them there. You won't be sorry.

The dealer in Newburry Park is one of the most dishonest dealers I have ever dealt with. I moved out here in February of this year and was excited to find a local dealer. I needed and annual service and a couple other minor issues taken care of. That work took 6 weeks and I was repeatedly lied to by the dealer. The final bill was over a $1,000 higher than they quoted. The service manager is a bold faced lier.

That doesn't leave us many options...!:( I tried the West Valley dealer and they just told me that since I didn't buy my bike there they were too busy to provide any service to me.
Long Beach and/or Irv Seaver in Pomona are a bit far for me, especially since I have to traverse L.A. to get to them...
Have you found a house yet?

I know folks can have different experiences at dealers. I was very unhappy with Marty's in Torrance when they were in business, others thought they were great.
I have a friend that lives very close to the Valley dealer and has used them a number of times and was quite pleased. We were talking the other day and he said that he wished he was in the market for a new bike so he could buy it there.
Go figure.

I purchased my 05 LT from Dale Johnson at Irv Seaver in Orange. The deal was great and I as treated like a gentleman. Dave Diaz in the parts department was a champ and got me squared away and trained on the Autocom and Garmin Nav II. He was a wealth of info on aftermarket covers,Battery Tenders,Jpegs etc. The service dept was buried rolling out the new cop bike contract but they jumped through hoops to help before and after hours for minor issues.
I have had good experiences with Brown BMW parts in Pomona. The guys there are very helpful and only a few miles from my new place.

I've had 15,000 miles of great service from my selling dealer BMW of Ventura County (Newbury Park). Two sets of tires and all service (12,000 mile service done in Tallahassee, FL - great service there too) last week they did the brake recalls including replacing the front rotors and pads under warranty because they were warped. My bike has been ready when promised, all work has been done right the first time. No Affiliations.
