Hello

I have a friend from NZ who is doing a 3 month tour in the US/Canada in Aug/Sep/Oct. If the NE was included, I think it would be best to try and catch the fall foliage.

I have two general approach routes for him:
A. Coming from the Niagara area, heading east across the various states, aiming for Conway/White Mountains at the right time.
B. Coming from New Brunswick/Nova Scotia, thru Maine and across to Conway (I did this by car a few years ago and it was absolutely stunning - hundreds and hundreds of miles of intense colors).

My question is: in setting a general time now which they'll be able to vary a bit when they are on the road, what would you say is the "target" week to aim for at this planning stage?

Having lived here 9 years, I know it varies year-to-year, but what is the generally accepted target date for the White Mountains?

Ralph,

My guess is the last week of Sept. thru the first week of October. The mts. turn before the lowlands. The first week of Oct 1-10 would get a little of both.
