I have a 2000 LT that has a lowered seat installed. It was installed by a dealer for the PO. I am 6'2" so I don't need a lowered seat and am considering trading with another member who has a 99 with a regular seat.
Can anyone tell me if you can put a regular seat back on after the modifications were done for a lowered one? Also can you install a height adjustment bar back on my lowered seat and increase the height that way? Mine doesn't currently have one.
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks,
Randy

It will mount up without a problem, but you will have a gap between the body molding and the seat.

Jim,
Would the gap be the same as it would have been originally? I assumed that my lower seat probably had a slightly different front bracket that allowed it to sit lower once the tabs were ground off the frame. So was figuring the standard seat would just sit a little higher in the front and have more padding. Just speculating though so I appreciate your reply.
Thanks,
Randy

You have to grind away some of the body work for the lowered seat to fit so there will be a gap between the body work and the seat. You could probably get some rubber and make a nice looking skirt.

Scott is correct, some of the body work was removed. If you look on the Corbin link they explain how to and how much should have been removed. I read on the site long ago about a fix that would make the gap livable, but I can not find it. Seems a piece of auto trim was used?????

Thanks for the info guys. I went out and looked at the body trim and looks like it was ground down. Never noticed before as it has a trim piece over it.

I was just thinking of getting a Corbin Seat and backrest for my 99 LT. I'd be happy to sell the stock seat and maybe get a used Corbin too. Bruce, was yours the lowered version? ...and why are you getting rid of it?

OOpss. Sorry Bruce. I see that you sold it and also answered my question on another thread. However, now I have to seriously consider Rick Mayers seats.

I have a 06 1200LT. I am somewhat vertically challenged. Is there a lower seat that will work with out modification to the bike? I know Corbin has one but its specs say that it will work up to 05 and then with some modifaction to the bike.

I just joined this community. I have a '99 with the stock seat and joined to find out if anyone has had any experience with the "lowered' seat that BMW has. My big question is, is it remotely as comfortable as the stock seat on long rides? I'm short on one end and if there is a better way.......

Beemerfor2,
I think the 2005 and newer are already "lowered" by design. You may still be able to get a lower seat with less padding that would help out, but I am not sure. The pre 2005 had to have hte body molding trimmed down and on my 2000 have some framework modified for the lower seat.
I still have my lower seat up in the attic, but use a Corbin I bought from Bruce a year or so ago. The only thing I don't like about the Corbin is it's so wide that I can't flat foot sitting on it I have to move forward to do so.
But the Corbin is much more comfortable than the stock seats available for the 2000-2004 years, at least for me.
Others will probably be able to help you better on what will work on the newer ones, but I thought I would at least give you what I know (which is limited I admit).
Good luck in your search,
Randy

wizzard,
My opinion is that the lowered version was just as uncomfortable as the stock version. Actually I thought the lowered was slightly better, but neither was good. I tried a stock one after I originally posted this thread, but have since used a Corbin. Right price and still haven't felt compelled to part with the cost to get a Kontour, Russel or Mayer.

I had a lowered seat on my '02 but I also had Rick Mayer give it a once over. It was very comfortable.

I just purchased a lowered seat from a private party. It is the regular BMW seat and my bike is a 2000. What is the stock number on the the pan of the lowered seat? I just don't see the difference. Thanks.
