Just looking at the Yamaha site. Could not find any reference to Cruise Control. Does anyone know if this is an available option, if it's not standard? Having a hard time figuring out a "touring" bike that doesn't have CC.

I don't have personal experience with this unit, but friends have said it works well.

Add, it will work on an FJR1300!

Cruise control is for Interstates, the FJR isn't. ;)

Dan,

My wife rides an 03 FJR and I know the FJR's thru 05 do not have cruise control either standard or as an option (I don't think 06 has it either). We put a ThrottleMiester on her bike, but that's just a throttle lock, not true cruise.

There are aftermarket kits available, some work better than others. Many people have adapted automotive aftermarket cruise controls to their FJR, but what I dislike about this is you have to hit the brakes to dis-engage the cruise. On a real motorcycle cruise control you should be able to just roll off the throttle to dis-engage.

I can't speak for Yamaha as to why they didn't include cruise, but having an FJR sitting in my garage I can tell you it's more sport bike than touring bike... but it is a blast to ride!

Dan,
Just get a Throttlemiester. Get the heavy ones, quality piece of equipment. After a couple of rides you get used to them and wonder why people need electronic cruise. This allows you to rest your hand for a while, thats all thats really needed, IMO.

I used the 'Vista Cruise' on my FJR, worked a treat, not a proper cruise control, but a throttle friction lock, fitted in 10 minutes, and only cost £20.

Thanks for the info, everyone. It was just a curiosity question. Yamaha refers to it as a sport touring bike. I was just surprised that there is no provision at all for CC.

Hi Dan,

I have swapped off with a friend and his FJR on a couple of rides. I think the FJR is a VERY capable LD bike. He loved how secure and commanding the LT felt and he absolutely fell in love with the cruise control. Why not?

Just because the FJR is a Sport Touring Bike doesn't mean it wouldn't benefit from this added capability as well. He ended up adding a mechanical CC unit, I don’t remember which one.

Don't listen to Yamahahahah hype or the Local Neanderthals.
