except from the known problems at the rear brake i wanted to ask something else : my rear disk's gap at the pins (the disk is floating) is increasing at a level beyond the specified limit and (besides the annoying ratlling)i have to replace the disk - this happens at every 25000 km aprox but this can't go on . i recently found out that a metal clip which is attached at the rear brake caliper is mising ,can this cause this problem? also if i put thin circlips at the pins in order to decrease the gap is it safe?

Dimitris,
Nice color, is it custom? I would not recommend circlips but some have used high temperature silicone RTV. They put a little on each the fittings and let it cure (24 hrs). It stops the rattle but still allows the rotor to float a bit (as it was designed to do). Good luck.

That's not right. You should not be wearing out the brake rotors that fast.

Hello Giokas,
My rear disk is also noisy, and very annoying, I had a similiar problem with my R1100RT and I replaced the 'bobbins' that it floats on with alternatives from www.motobins.co.uk (http://www.motobins.co.uk/). They worked fine.
However, my problem now is that when I asked Motobins for similiar replacements for the 2002 K1200LT, they said they do not stock them, so I asked my dealer and he sent me a diagram asking me to point them out on the diagram, except the disk in the diagram is not floating. So, last week when I was in Germany, I asked a dealer there, again, I could see that the disk in the factory parts database is not a floating disk. So, what is going on? Is my disk an newer model disk, if so, is anyone likely to have changed it in the past, sounds totally crazy to me. My bike has the BMW brakes, not the Brembo ones on earlier models.
All Suggetsions are welcome,
Yours confused,

All the LT's rear disks are floating. I don't know why the parts catalog shows different, except maybe that the rear comes as a one-piece unit with the inner mount attached, unlike the fronts which mount directly to the rim.
I sure wish one of the aftermarket companies made rear disks for the LT.

Hi Ken,
I will have to have a much closer look today at my disk and the diagram that I was sent. I have attached the pic that I was given, would you have a look and see what you think, it does not describe the little bobbins that I would normally associate with floating disks.
Thanks for any input,
The disk has been noisy for a year now, but since I decided that I want to resolve it, it is driving me crazy, previously, I did not notice it at all.

That pic doesn't show the disk mounting points, which are on the other side from the ABS sensor gear. There's nothing replaceable there (unlike the front wave washers) so it doesn't really make any difference.
