OMG! The new R1200GS Adventure

If there was a bike to mess up my plans for the K1200GT, this one is it. I got to see the R1200GSA up close and in person. The bike wasn't made hot yet, so I couldn't test ride it. But the fit and feel is almost like being on the LT. That big wide tank and the position of the handlebars makes me feel just like I was on the LT. The seat isn't quite as confortable, but darn close. Almost has me thinking....

They had one at A&S today - It really has curb appeal. Though I think I'll keep my lighter R1200GS and add the Adventure wind wings and maybe the shield or the Ztechnik shield.

just from what I have seen:

Bigger tank
more protection - crash bars
different windshield
wind wings
seat
knobby tires


Not sure about the following:

ride height
gearing
lights (Micro DE -optional or standard?)

On the ADVRIDER board, there is a fellow who rode both.
He prefers the standard R1200GS for all but cruising down the highway.

BTW, Not all R1200GS ADV's come with knobbies. His (which he rode, but has to keep at the dealer, till after the open house), came with tourances.

From my understanding, BMW uses Karoo knobbies which are poor on pavement. Most GS'ers switch for TKC-80's.

You got me hooked a couple of months ago Jeff. I have a deposit down and should see the bike any day noe. Sorry to say Im selling my LT.

I believe the aux lights may be from TourTek ? Their Xenon Gas setup..?

Has anyone every used these lights ?

How do they perform ?

The lights on Adventure at A&S were Hella Micro DE fogs - non HID with new mounts. Not the same as the HID set up seen on the regular GS from Touratech.

I know everything is relative, do you guys think the price difference is justified between the 1200 Gs & 1200 GSA. I sure like the looks and larger capacity fuel, more wind protection, larger alternator, roll cage, skid plate , beefed up suspension. maybe I answered my own question. Your opinions.

Id take the GS over the GT anyday....

I have an R1200GS 'standard' (I think that's what we're going to call them now). I can't see the price difference myself. For one thing, the Adv is too tall for me. I'd rather take a standard R12GS, add 3rd party bars (Hepco & Becker already has a set that look like the Adv bars, including tank protectors), Touratech's almost-ready underseat 5-liter fuel tank and maybe a CeeBailey's windscreen. Done deal for less than a grand more than stock price.

I have to say that I REALLY admired the new hard cases for the adventure. They will be a straight-across bolt on for the standard, but the price tag will be high.. around $2300. Stainless steel mounts though! True moto-porn.

I test rode the regular 1200GS, and I was blown away at how superior it is to the old 1150GS!

I'm not sure the 1200GSA would be as practical for street/highway riding as the plain 1200GS, and certainly can't see it as a replacement for the LT, except for people like Marty who plan to ride it off-road a heck of a lot more than I ever would...but boy-oh-boy, as a second bike to compliment the LT, I have NO problem seeing it being a fantastic ride!!!!!!!!!

My lender, who also does duty as my wifey v. 1.0 has informed me that my existing line of credit is dangerously close to its limit. Oh well, I figure that by the time of the Eldridge Children's Home ride on DECEMBER 2, 2006 I'll have sold some more dirt and can git an increase in my credit limit.

The gearing is the same, I checked it saturday, I think it is much higher though, or this suspension was much tighter!

there is also a few that have put some aftermart cruise on them already.

oh yea.......... 8+ gls of gas as well!

I have tried the CeeBailey, the stock, and a small Wunderlich sport shield. So far the Z is the best. I added the Tobinators and I am almost completely satisfied. Now I am looking for the quietest helmet.

imo the Schuberth S1 is the most quiet full face helmet i have ever used. it is a little pricey and it fits my head much better than equivalent sizes in Shoei x-11 or Arai corsair The ventilation is decent but not great.
