well just rode up to bobs this weekend had fun spent money. Was leaving the lot when someone said your tire is low .Strange I thought looked at it when i left Raliegh. well let me put some air in it was putting air in at there shop and the tire had started to split. I was very lucky to have found this there at bobs bmw and they did a great job fitting me in .You may say well how many miles were on 16500 not alot but they were fun miles. The bummer was having to go slow back to break it in but better than sitting on 95 with a flat and no way to fix it on sat. or worse going out at 75 . Any one else get better mileage on there tires . mine was an metezler.

Jim, did you take any photos? A lot of us ride on Mets and would be interested in seeing the split.

16,500 miles are allot of miles on this heavy of a bike.... Hard starts and hard stops,, A few hard shifts and the tire is worn out....
I think your going to fine that 16,500 miles is allot of miles on any heavy touring bike...........Regards Pete

I get around 20k with the Metz 880's on the front. On the rear, when I haven't replaced the tire because of a puncture, mileage has been 13k and 16k. The last change was with the tire at 16k and wasn't near the wear bars, but I was planning to ride two-up to CCR in Jackson and it wasn't worth deferring the replacement. I usually ride solo and keep the tire pressures up.

I got a little over 19K out of my last rear Metzler. It was, however, flat (pun intended) worn out. The front is still on showing signs of wear but still not to the wear bars with about 21K on it.

I've been consistently getting near 20k on my metz's. I don't beat the tires but I certainly don't baby them either. I change both at the same time irregardless of wear.

I've gotten almost 16K on my front Metz. I showed it to a buddy the other day and the was amazed at how much tread was left on it. Rear has 12K now and looks new.

Well here is my tire (Metz 880) I just replaced after about 16000 kilometers (10k miles).
Had to ride it for 150kms after discovering this because there was no other help around where I was at the time.
Notice the tread on the left side of the tyre still looks good - gotta love the camber on Aussie roads!

I have run several sets of 880 and have always liked them very well. I tend to change out both tires and the best I've gotten is about 15,000. My current set have about 9,000 on them and the still have some ware left but I can't believe they will last for another 7,000. I do alot of city riding and maybe our dry air and high altitude have something to do with it. This is my first set on my LT I had a 2001 Yamaha RSV and the wear seemed to be a bit better on the 880 on that machine. I did buy the bike a 03 second hand and it only had 1000 miles on it so maybe age and poor inflation in the first 1000 reduced the life.

It would be great if when each of you tells the other thread readers about your tire wear & mileage that you include that you are riding two-up or one up.

I had an MEZ6 split on the INSIDE of the tire (front) and one of the steel belts came thru the center of it..... the air pressure helped seperate the layers and I ended up with a BIG bubble. Metzler was great and I got a new tire out of the deal.

If you truly ride, brake, and accelerate hard, then you really need to try the BT020s, or the Avon/BT020 combo. Especially with all the rain you get up in the great North Wet. :)

I'm sorry but there is nothing I can see that looks good anywhere on that tire. JMHO. :D
