Can anyone help me with the removal of the front speaker grilles or covers. I have found that one of mine has gone rusty over Winter and I need to renew it.
Thanks

They are not individually removable. The front (interior) cowling is one piece

Can't say I have ever had mine apart, but this might give you an idea.

Terry, how about a quick brush over with some satin black paint? the grill area is too small to show any brush marks?
certainly be worth a try before you start dismantling?

I think this (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0545&mospid=47963&btnr=46_0437&hg=46&fg=55) is the picture you're looking for. The metal grills are listed as:
46632309463 $35.00 LEFT LOUDSPEAKER COVER
46632309464 $35.00 RIGHT LOUDSPEAKER COVER

Just went through that exact process. On the back of the instrument "dash" cover the speaker grills are simply held on by longer pieces "tabs" of the same material pushed through slots. the friction and pressure is what holds them in. I've had them off twice, Once to remove and paint, the other to replace the open cell foam covering that is under the grills. I recently replaced the entire dash area in an upgrade. '00 bike with the coloring of an '05+. once you get it off, you'll know what to do. If you want my old ones. nice and black, let me know. Shipping may be an issue, but they are light....

Hi Steve,
I have seen how they are kept in place after changing one of the front speakers. I was wondering if the tabs broke when you unbended them. Obviously not.
How did you manage to paint them without sealing a lot of the holes ?. Spray can ?.
Thanks for the offer but I think the distance and cost of postage would not be worthwhile. Maybe someone who lives in CA ?.

I used a pick, simular to a dental pick and a flat blade screw driver... they are not frail and they took quite a bit of abuse. its just perforated metal, so it will take a licking. Just watch not to bend them as they would crease pretty easily. And yes, a spray paint can is all it took. go to a hardware store and get some air conditioning pre-filter, the foam stuff that sits on the inside for a window unit, cut to size. (don't have to be exact) and spray adhesive. this will protect the speakers just a well as the oem material. just looking to keep "most" of the water off them. use the spray paint and your done... Good a new! :D
