If you need relays, where to install...

As part of my power seat project I needed a bunch of relays to be installed inside the nose cone. Since I already had five relays in the front plus the 12-fuse fuse box plus two additional Fiamm horns I bought from Neodoc I had to scratch my head in order to find place for additional six relays I needed in my seat project.

Attached pictures show how I made it. I used this galvanized perforated installation strip (the heavy duty variant) that is used for various home equipment installations (like ventilators, pipes etc.).
I welded a small piece of cross bar which fits under the lower windshield bracket bolt.
After taking the first picture I realised that I needed two more relays to be installed and for that purpose I had to weld another piece of this perforated strip on the top side of the bracket. I forgot to take a picture of the new version of the bracket itself so the second picture shows the extended bracket with the relays installed.

The third picture shows the final result. Six new relays "neatly" in row. Four on the backside of the bracket and two on the front side.

What these relays actually do is another story, to be reported later...

Naw, see I´m a simple self-made electrician and all I understand about electricity is that "always connect the matching colors and whatever is left over just put under the same screw"...

My life would have been easier had I located double, triple or even quad five-pin (switching type) relays but no, I only found singles. (Did not visit more than two auto parts shops, though.)

I admit the sockets might have made the end result look a bit more professional but it would have not saved me any wires or splicings. Besides I love fiddling with these Abiko connectors and shrink tube...:)

All I can say is it’s a good thing you’re not trying to make a living as a wilder.;)

That looks almost as bad as MOST of my scab jobs.:)

Hint: flat black paint will cover it up better, hell I’ve even been known to use body putty to cove up some of my work…. :)

Have you tried the Bluetooth unit properly yet? I moved mine from under the rear seat prior to going to Tasmania to where yours is and used the same power feeds as you and now it resets its self occasionally, still works fine but you can hear the reset tone in the helmet. It may be something to do with the power, haven't had a chance to try to track it down since returning home on Wednesday.

In the 10 days on the road I received around 40 to 50 incoming calls and made about 10 outgoing calls and not one realised I was on a bike, it works well.

In fact I'm actually proud of my welding skills (being a baker in profession), but I have to admit that welding galvanized steel with an old welding transformator is not one of my strongest abilities...:o

I would have access to an TIG welding unit but that that would require me driving 5 kilometers to the crime scene and I was too lazy to do that for some small piece of steel so I just used my 30 year old Italian transformator welder...

Good hint using the flat black paint! I have to remember that the next time..

glad to hear you seem to be OK after the storm that destroyed part of your continent...

About the wires, they all were indeed needed for my seat raising motor + limit switches + position indicator lights. I have tried to label the wires so that I can recocnize them later.

The Smartire unit is not visible in these pictures. It is recessed in my new dash extension and it still at painters.. I'll post pictures as soon as get the piece home.

We still have too much snow for riding so my Bluetooth testing is still at stage 1. So far I have not had a chance to test it any more than what I did before Christmas. I will let you know how mine works hopefully in two to three weeks.
