Just received my Smartire kit in the mail. Any advice before I head off to install it?
Where have others mounted the receiver/display.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Daz,

funny that you asked about the receiver mounting...

I am in the process of making a report on how I got a bit carried away with that project. The project is almost completed but this is a bit far out so I don't want to recommend it as "a quick weekend thing". The two pictures show the idea...(At the moment the dash part is still at painters so the finished pictures will follow later.)

Anyway, an easier approach to this is to use the dash light cavity for the Smartire receiver. I used Dremel to cut out an opening that could accommodate the receiver in as steep angle as possible. This angle is extremely important since the Smartire display is not the brightest in the world.
And I have to admit that I never got the installation angle quite correct so that was the reason I started this massive dash reshaping project.

I also had the display installed on the left side of the dash but that was the worst location. Did not work at all...

I copied AlaskaFish and mounted mine on top of the silver dash cover, just to the right of the raised center hump. I used velcro to hold it in place, and ran the wires down through the long slot where the windshield arms come through. Just tie the wire so it clears the arms, and hook into the map light for power.

Mounted mine on the BMR shelf -- will see how that works for viewing. As stated in previous post the display is not the brightest

Mounted mine under the right side corner of the dash shelf & routed power off the map light circuit. Not pictured in photo, but mounted just right of the GPS under shelf. Mounted with DualLoc fastners at an upward facing angle for easy viewing.

Guys.. any additional words about Smartire? Would you do it again.. or do it differently.. or have you seen/heard of a different product? I need to get tires and will be doing something on this relatively quick.... week or so...

Thanks for any additional cautions or info... good or bad..

The SmarTire works great. The only caution is to make sure the guy changing your tires knows to be extremely careful around the wheel sensors. Otherwise it does exactly what it advertises.

I see from the company website they have a 3rd Generation system.. Is this what you have installed?

The one I have looks just like the pics on their motorcycle page (http://www.smartire.com/products/motorcycles/index.html). I assume it's the latest generation.

I finally got it ordered.. Sounds like it will do what I want. I was using the mechanical indicators but I had one fail last year at CCR after I hit a pothole and I decided I would like to have something. I put new ones on every tire change and do not over tighten so that I would not get an operational failure but I did..

I'm kind of hesitant about the potential for problems at every tire change... but is seems that if you have a printout and directions for the tire installer it should go OK.. worth a try. I hate cupped tires with a passion..
