Iv,e just had a letter from bmw to see if I want to extend the warranty for 12 months seeing as my bike is going to be 2 years old on the 22 of this month..
The cost is £659.00 , which includes European breakdown cover.
They have offered the European cover seperatly for £130.00.
I have spoken to my dealer , and he say,s it,s worth the money to extend the warranty because if the ABS unit fails your,e talking nearly £2000 to replace it with labour.
Question ; is it worth taking out and could I get a warranty elsewhere.
If anybody has taken this warranty out , is it worth the paper it,s wrote on.

I never took the extended warranty on my bike but did keep it going for about seven years with the car. It kept ramping up in price every year (well above inflation), and when it went above GBP500 I gave it up. At those prices I'll just take the chance. The savings that I bank will pay for most repairs that are likely to be required, especially if I can do most of the work myself. I think I gained a couple of 'free' batteries for all the money I spent on the car's warranty.
Like all insurance it just depends how lucky you feel. ABS module failures are not unknown but not that common either.

When I've kept a bike more than two years, I've gone for the extended warranty, and it HAS been cost effective.
On my first LT, a 99, I got a new gearbox, new clutch (complete mechanism) and a complete rear trans all under extended warranty, all FOC.
All the problems were down to the dealer who fixed a gearbox oil seal screwing up - but you don't know that at the time.
My 99 LT ended its time with me after:
Two complete gearbox replacements
Two coplete rear difs
Two Crown wheel bearings
A "hand built" engine - which cured the problems finally.
Oh - and in the end, I had a Toyota Previa for a month until my 03 bike arrived.
On my wife's cruiser, it has paid for numerous issues over 6 years.
I don't get the extended now because I do too many miles - my 05 bike is 11 moths old and only has 27,000 miles up - but it'll start going up again when I get going on my 1,000 mile a week commutes again, and that means it isn't cost effective, so I sawp at two years, saving the cost, and "start again"
