How about it any BB's going to be attending this years get together in Georgia? If so should we think about getting a room for tasting, cigars etc. for either before or after dinner libation?

Though not much of a Booze Brother, I plan on attending. It's one of the main reasons I attend CCR. ;) The last two year's BB parties have proven to be QUITE interesting, to say the least.

I'll definately be there. I'll be a new rookie Booze Brother looking for my membership number...

That's OK Joe, I'll drink your share. .. I'm a professional.:) Give me a boilermaker and I'm a happy Irish, Italian, English..........What ever the hell I am.

Now as for the Ceegars, I'll probably be a little more wimpy on that. Not too used to smoking although I hang out in smoky clubs almost every weekend.

Probably catch quite the buzz on the nic....

Looking forward to meeting all of you at CCR.

There is a great outdoor patio area if the weather is pleasant, and the lobby level bar allows cigar smoking and sells some very nice cigars. Other possibilities abound.

OK.........We have got it started...Do we do as before? Everyone brings their favorite and we test all around. Do we do some fine "Port" after dinner?

I'm sipping some fine Glenrothes right now, it has me in the mood. It seems an old BB member, "Steve aka, Varoom" turned me on to it a couple of years ago. Open for ideas and suggestions..............

There is also a liquor store down the street from the venue that carries some purdy good stuff. I reckon it might be good, some of way up there on the top shelf went for $400-$500!!!!

Anyhow, if you don't feel like dragging or shipping an expensive bottle of booze across country, you can call Al at Sonny's Package Store, order what you want and it will be there. 770-307-1818.

Of course, you have to tell him you're with the Curve Cowboy Reunion staying at the Chatuea or the secretary will disavow all knowledge of your actions.

Hi John,

BB numbers are given out by agreement during. There are quite a few ceegar afficionado's. You'll meet(smell) them:). This Port thing is worth to spin out a bit more. Interesting. We had a couple of Ports before, but none too many. The Port wood (Balvenie) is well established. What are you going to bring?

I'll keep the LT until I am sure the GT will be staying around a while. Then I'll probably consign her at the dealer. That seems to work well. I think 5 people came in while I was there on Saturday asking for used LTs.

It is almost worth flying out just for the BB party. Last year there were some incredible Scotches and the bottles of tequila were MUY EXCELLANTE!!!!!! I even have some fine Cohibas from Cuba to go with them this year. My partner wanted the last two weeks of August off this year and since I took them the last two years I guess I have to give him a turn.

Hi Hank,

Port pretty much reaches all the outlets in the US. The Port exporters do a good job there. A good Port to bring would be a late bottled vintage. Well matured, but doesn't have to be decanted. And it can stand some travel.

Anything new? Nah, most Single Malts I drink are older than 12y. I know way before if one of my favourite brands are doing a new bottling.

Single Malts are a different kettle of fish. The longer the bottles have to travel, the more gets drunk en bought along the way. The importers in the US have to have their contacts, otherwise, no go. There are many private distillers, that can export as they see fit. Unfortunately, most big brands and distillers are in the end owned by big (brewing) companies. They sell to the highest bidders. You have to have an importer in the neighbourhood that wants to pay up, then you have choice. Try and find a Islay Lagavullin raised on Pedro Xeminez casks and older that 21y. in the US. Even here in Holland I have trouble finding that.

Actually, the Booze Brothers were born a bit before, and during Santa Fe CCR. I think it was Raffy who came up with the name, and I politely asked if I could use it.

CCR for me was an introduction to the US by some of their finests. I will come to another one, but after two CCR's my holiday funds are a little bit depleted and now spent in Europe's back yard.

Clinck! to the finer tastes in life, and to the water of life...Good pics. One of them shows a bottle of Jim Beam's "Knob Creek", some fine bourbon. I won't be at CCR, but for you bourbon aficionados I recommend checking out Woodford Reserve, made in Versailles, Kentucky (the heart of the Kentucy bourbon region). Interestingly, Jim Beam produces more bourbon in a day than Woodford Reserve does in a year. Yep, they're a small distillery. One warehouse. Totally cool tour, too, if you ever get that way.

Hi BB#1, Raffy is that kind of guy, he doesn't mind sharing. Just returned from Las Vegas after four days of birthday party (mine) hosted by my kids. Great time, the best I could find out there was an Aberlour 18, nice stuff. Sorry you won't make it to this years CCR, maybe next year for sure.

I thank you again for your pearls of wisdom regarding the finer tastes of life.

Victor,

Here is a new scotch I discovered about two years ago and plan to bring to CCR this year. Bruiladdich. They make 7yr, 10yr and 17yr.

I might be able to swing the the 10yr. The 17yr does not travel well, as soon as it clears the cabinet it start to evaporate.

Look forward to seeing you again at a future CCR

Hi Sherman,

Good to hear from you!
We had some nice drinks together.
Likewise looking forward to meet again.

Ah, Bruichladdich...
They even have a 40y old that I had the privilege to taste.
From Islay, and close to my favourite distillery (Lagavulin)
Here's an interesting fact about the water Bruichladdich is mixed with.
Them Inca's sure knew what they were distilling :)
CCR wil be the richer for it, good choice!

Scotch Whisky Island Discovers Identical Twin

Islay, Scotland’s famous whisky island, home to distilleries such as Bruichladdich, Laphroaig and Ardbeg, has a doppelgänger: an identical twin on the other side of the planet.

Not only does the twin have the same birth, it also has the same name and characteristics.

Bruichladdich’s MD Mark Reynier explains: “We use a special spring for the water when bottling our whisky. It comes was an 1800 year old Gneiss rocks - more than 3 times older than the rest of the island – and the oldest rock in the scotch whisky world.”

He consulted the geologist Martin Litherland and the world’s leading expert Professor Ian Dalziel of the Institute of Geophystics at The University of Texas.

The theory is that 750 million years ago the planet consisted of a single super-continent of Rodinia, made up of several sub-continents.

One continent, Laurentia (later to be North America) moved laterally against Gondwana (the proto-South American continent) and Islay’s Rhinns peninsula was torn off Gondwana and stuck onto Laurentia (Scotland).

“After a form of continental pinball Scotland (Laurentia) was rammed on to England (Avalonia) and the rest of Europe (Baltica) during the Caledonian Orogeny 450 million years ago.”

The Rhinns Peninsular had been torn off what is today the Arequipa coast of Peru. Arequipa, an Inca settlement, shared the exact same Gneiss rock as the Rhinns.

But Reynier was astounded to discover it also shared the same name too: Islay.

The Islay Doppelgänger, or identical twin, may be 6000 miles away but has a disturbingly similar existence:

“Like Islay Scotland, Islay Peru has beautiful sandy beaches, outstanding ocean coastline, a developing tourist industry.

“It is equally ignored by central government suffering under investment, shortage of housing and poor transport infrastructure.

“Fishing and farming are also the main industries: The Rhinns has Alpacas and they distil alcohol!

“The Peruvians were as astounded as I was when I explained the situation. They have no idea where the name came from and yet they pronounce it exactly the same way”

The Mayor of Islay (Peru) Miguel Roman is to visit Bruichladdich Distillery for their 125th Anniversary celebrations on Sunday 28th May as guest of honour.

Much to this surprise, and despite total disbelief of islanders, Local councillor Robin Currie is discussing the possibility of twinning the two Islays.

There are consequences for the Islay Appellation that will concern the Scotch Whisky Association. For many, Islay means Single Malt Scotch Whisky – but Peruvian Rum and Pisco (a grape brandy) could equally be entitled to the same Islay nomenclature: “Distilled in Islay”.

“We may well import some of their brandy just for the pleasure of seeing the SWA’s reaction. You could call it taking the Pisco.”

What are the requirements to become a BB with or without a number? Personely I like beer, ales, porters, heifevizen and draughts, Even barley wine, I brought mead to STCII, it is quite sweet though.

Is your number derived from the number of times you fall down after the taste test?

As for a number . . . I don't need no stinkin'' number! I just show up. Andy hands me a bottle of Chili home-brew. Yummy! Then Ed Early pours me 'who knows what' and tries to school me on whatever I'm drinking. These guys have forgotten more about booze than I'll ever learn. :o At home, I drink Guinness and red wine. I don't have much to 'bring to the table' for these Port, Single-Malt, and TaKillYa drinkers. :D

Umm, the requirements are first sitting in a circle, state your name, and motivation.... :). The rest is quite simple, bring your taste to the BB's and share. Pass YOUR taste around, wether it be Inca juice, beer, port, wine, or any other beverage. Even smokes and food will get you a BB number.

The number of times I fell down after a serious session? I would end up in the double digits :(

Andy, we would be more than happy to auction off your outstanding brew!! However, we do not feel that we would be able to auction it off earlier than anything else. Bids will be closed on Thursday night, the winning bids will be posted Friday morning, and must be paid for and claimed by noon.

The only other situation is that you must be VERY careful about shipment. There are regulations about shipping alcohol. If only one bottle should break........

Dave Dragon, same for you, unless you are transporting yourself.

You can ship to the following address;

Vik, I look forward to seeing you at some future CCR. We have had some great times for sure in Santa Fe and Gatlinburg.

I was BB #13 for a bit, from the original spreadsheet you made for the wares being brought to Santa Fe. Last October I realized I was addicted to alcohol, and had to put is all aside. I miss the tastes and smells, but not the consequences, which for me were just too much. Being around drinkers does not bother me, and I enjoy watching others have fun, so I'll find the BB lounge and enjoy a cigar and a soft drink.

Hi Muns,

Likewise.
Nice pics, brings back good memories!

And #13 you'll stay!
I just made up a rule that a number once given, shall not change anymore :D
And although you don't do booze anymore, the BB's are a good bunch to hang out with. Same here with smoking. I've smoked enough to last me a life time, but I still enjoy the smell of a good cigar or hookah. Also, when riding, I know my limit of 2 shots, and after that I still enjoy the party drinkin' diet coke.
How about bringing a non-alcoholic taste that you like? Food? Pie? Smoke? Special chocolate bon bons, dried fruits? Fermented dates? Truffles? Foie Gras?Special cured beef jerky? Home made stuff?

The Booze in the Brothers changed quite a bit when we specified that taste was also about food, as long as it is YOUR taste.

The BB meetings will not get an ohfisjul status.
So not on the programme.
Booze might not mix well with CCR's exemplary public reputation.

Meetings will just occur spontaniously.
Sometimes a little session in the afternoon :)
I remember distinctly that there was once a nice Texicat present of Tito's hand made Vodka in the afternoon. Of course I had to open one bottle at once!

Them BB's will find each other.
There might be a sign or placard with arrow's...(hint, hint)
