View Full Version : Seattle Tech Session

I'm heading north again, and figure we should talk about setting up a tech session in the Seattle area. There was some interest in doing a slave cylinder swap and drilling a drain hole.
These dates are possibilities for me so far:
March 25/26
April 1/2
April 8
April 22/23
April 29/30
I suppose we should check Coni's schedule first, as she was the original requester. We could also arrange for standard 6K & 12K services and farkle installations as needed.
And we'd need a hosting location of course.

I know some other people wanted to host last time. If no one steps up, your always welcome at my place. I am out of the Hatch NM green chili though. Sorry....

Hey Brain anyone ever hold a Tech session on the East Side of the State?

Usmctpdog,
I do not recall hearing about one recently. Maybe some of the eastern Wa Idaho people will chime in with some interest. When the weather (passes) warm up a little I would gladly come visit you guys. Maybe you can make another post seeking interest in a E wa tech session. Its a great way to learn the bike. Of course you are always welcome to visit us over here. (I know you have braved the passes already)

I would love to get a tech session together on this side and I have already found another LT rider in my neighborhood! We will be getting together later this week. You coming over to direct a TS on this side would be Great and so would be the ride over to join yours! *Thanks for the invite.
*If we get enough LT'ers maybe we can get a rotating Tech Session going back and forth across the state?

I'd be glad to head over to Spokane to play, passes willing, of course. And if we can find a decent date and place.

Maybe some Grand Tour checkpoints out east could justify the trip Ken?

I'm gathering "stuff" to add to my bike. I've got to drill some holes for the BMR shelf and run wires to connect the Autocom to the 2720 and the Kenwood Bike to Bike radio. Also looking at getting a pump and hose to replace the canister. Maybe a radar detector (I hear that they are indispensable when riding with Brian), wings of some color, convert front turn signals to running lights, and some saddlebag lights. Umm and.....there must be more.

Lemme know if you guys need a hand installing the radar detectors. Then I'll be glad to show you how to use them. :)
Hey Brian, think we can find a dry day to do Lolo Pass again? :D

If we can make it thru the pass, Maybe we could try it again on dry pavement. I'm up for making a weekend of it. Anyone else? I guess we could always go up the columbia instead of the pass.

;) Are you thinkin' 12 to 93 to Idaho Falls to 89 (Afton, WY) per chance? ;)Nah, we just did WY for CCR, no reason to head back so soon.
Kidding. :)
Sure, the northern route is an option. Maybe even make a loop and catch checkpoints 10-13 while we're at it. Wanna join us? :D

Let's see... Going to Afton via the Northern route to Connel, Missoula, Afton and back through Hampton, Warm Springs to Portland. 1851 miles and 34 hours plus stops and rest. You bet! :yeah: It'll be a 3 day'er if Pauline goes, and since she'll be doing the GT too, I think she'll be joining us.

I found Garibaldi (check spelling) on the Oregon coast below Highway 26, and Mehama just east of Salem. But I get two Hamptons, one in Deschutes County and one in Lane County. The booklet will have better info, and usually full addresses of the places that have the stamps.
The other "far" checkpoints are between Portland and L.A., so I'm good there.

The Hampton will most likely be the one on Hwy 22 east of Bend. This will be the 4th year in a row that they have had a check point out there on that stretch.
Garibaldi is the next town north of Tillamook. There is a really cool road from Garibaldi to Hwy 26 up the Miami River and intersecting with hwy 53. A great day ride from Hillsboro is a loop through Vernonia on hwy 47 north to Clatskanie then back through Jewell down the Miami to Garibaldi and back on hwy 6. It will be a 230 mile trip with some excellent twisties. :D

Hey Meese,
I was going to contact you about this, sorry I missed the thread.
I check my calendar and I can do it April 22 OR 23rd.
What say you gang? Does that work for you?
Let me know,

Good to hear from you. I was just about to send out the search party. Been out riding? :)
I have a lead on a 3-car garage, but let me verify those dates work with him first. Then we can officially schedule it and start taking names.

Let me know,
Well DARN Coni! That s the same weekend as the Cambria meeting down south which I plan on hitting on my way back from my Palm Springs trip! I would love to attend, but that weekend is a no-go for me. Maybe a future Tech Session though?

John,
I wouldn't worry about it...I just checked the Cambria thread and Meese said he was going to be there as well. How can he be both places at the same time? ;)
We can't have a tech session without Ken. :D
So, I had better give another look-see at my calendar.
Alrighty now, April 29 OR 30th will work too. Is that doable?
It'll save us spitting Ken down the middle, a much neater package that wayl :p
What do you say Ken? Will that work for you?

I know about Cambria, John. I figured I may have to skip it since I'll definitely still be in Hillsboro at that time. However, it's only 853 miles / 14.5 hours, so maybe I could still make it. :) Sure, Dayle could just drive up and meet me there. :D
However, we'd love to have you at the tech session too. So I'll check with our proposed location and see if the 29th works for him.
Stay tuned. :)

Looks like we're good for April 29th. I figured Saturday is better since there is a dealer nearby, just in case. I'll start another thread with location details, a sign up list, and recommended parts for various services. Stay tuned.

It sounds like you might have had a more exciting (wet) ride over Lolo Pass, but Hwy 12 over Lolo Pass from Missoula to Orofino is one great ride.

Hey Guys,
Have been reading through all the post but unclear as to the area and
location for the tech session.
Sounds like a good time . Looks like all the Bib Guns are planning on being there. Look forward to seeing old friends and new ones.

I've done the cannister and speed sensor wire repair, but would like to see someone remove the cam (valve adjust) and learn more about the rear wheel bearing installation.
Anytime in June-July works for me!

Letgoplay,
Where are you located? Our priority this coming weekend would be the slave cylinder drilling but If time allows I will do my rear bearing swap. It doesnt seem like to big of a job, Valves are easy as well. I do not know if anyone attending wants to do that. I believe the following weekend in Eastern washington some one will be doing valves. Come on by and check it out.
