Additional Power outlet

I have been reading the faq's about removing tupper ware and my question is do I have to stip down all the tupperware to get to the little rectangle piece on the left side of the dashboard just to right of the left mirror. I would like to drill a hole in that little piece and install an additional switched power plug there. Thought that would be a good location as it would balance with the headlight adjuster.

Hi Fred:

Just remove the windshield, the cover below it and the left mirror. That should give you plenty of access to work. A good source for switched power is the maplight wires. Piggy back to the connector on the maplight. If you are going to draw anything more than 1-2 amps, I'd consider a relay.

There's quite a bit of room behind there. Take a look at post #17 here (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5630) to see an option that surfaced when I was looking to do essentially the same thing, though this one is installed on the other side. FYI, I also found the install below as another suggestion. I've actually now done both on my bike, but both with standard power outlets.

Thanks again guys. That is what i wanted to hear I am still not comfortable with taking off all the tupperware. I plan on putting the pwr plug up front and feeding it into my tank bag where I will put my aux fuse block. Had that arrangement on my RT and it was nice just unplug from the bike and all wires and aux's went into the bag and into the motel with me.

That's what my initial plan was Fred . . . but there's so much room on the LT, I changed my mind. I have a fuse block under the passenger seat on the left side. And last night I installed another up front under the nose cone that feeds my new HID and a new set of halogens, and 2 AutoSwitches.

Once you've stripped her down a few times, it's a piece-a-cake.
