In recent months, many of us have talked about using an Ipod or any of the other MP3 player on the LT. Others have mounted Satellite radios (XM or Sirius, take your pick).

Now for the survey-

If you had to pick one- MP3 Player or Satellite radio- which one would you pick. Why?

iPod ALL the way!

Here's just a few reasons why I won't get satellite radio:

Pay for radio?...I don't think so.
Groovy talking DJs are right around the corner.
Commercials are coming too...you heard it here first.
Only one Genre at a time. 50% of the time I use shuffle mode of my entire collection, going from genre to genre to genre with each song.
My iPod never loses it's signal.

I wouldn't pick just one. Both are good. The iPod is great because I can program whatever I want in whatever order I want. Satellite Radio is great, because there are times that I grow bored with my playlists and want something different/random/outside of my normal listening habits. On those really long rides, I can always squeeze out an extra hour or two in a day just by switching to Raw-Dawg Comedy on Sirius.

Joe said it all, same way I feel about cable TV.

Ipod all the way.

I went the XM Sat radio route ... I don't have the time or resources to upload all the music one would want to have. As well by randomly listening too differant programming find new artists that really sound great.

At $9.99 a month it is worth it & actually cheaper IMHO than buying C.D's or paying for music uploads on line.

Plus it go's on the bike, in the house or at work with full adjustablity of music types with the touch of a button.

... except that I don't use an ipod. I play MP3's through my phone connected to an FM modulator -- the phone is also my nav system -- mounted on my handlebar, and I have Sirius mounted on the bike as well. It really depends if you want to take the time to control what you listen to or if you don't mind having someone else make the playlist. Lot's of selection either way, but both is better!

Sirius and iPod mini.
Sirius allows me to hear a lot of music I would not even know about to buy. I can switch genre's pretty quickly. If they start having commercials on Spirit 66 or Blues 74, I may drop them. FM radio is not free, you pay by listening to the trash. And when traveling, finding a station is bothersome.
The iPod lets me focus on specific tunes I want to hear now. I don't like that the steenkin icelink freezes occastionally. I keep a CD in the single slot for whenever neither strikes my fancy.

I have, use, and like both (XM and iPod Nano). If I had to choose, I'd keep the iPod. I like to listen to downloaded podcasts of the Dave Ramsey Show while on the road.

I wanted something to keep me occupied on my cross country rides, had listened to the same 6 CDs and FM radio for a long time. Still like the same CDs though, they are now in my car.

I added XM radio, and was extremely pleased and satisfied with it, kept me going on those thousand mile days.

IPOD is a total non starter for me, first, I would never pay $1/song for downloads, and the fact that even if you pay for a song, download it and put it on your Ipod, you cannot easily use it somewhere else. Like most people hate Microsoft, I hate Apple for that predatory device-locked marketing. (yeah, I know you can get around it somewhat, but not without work, or doing something illegal)

Secondly, I just cannot see sitting in front of my computer for hours putting together a play list. Another reason that would be difficult for me is that I hear MANY songs on the radio every day I would like to have available, but usually do not remember the title or artist when I am not listening. Could not down load it anyway if I don't know what it is. :D

If I was to return to cross country riding, it would be just like is was previously, FM radio, 6 CDs, and XM radio. That is enough options to keep me busy for days on end. I probably listened to the comedy channels more than anything else on long trips when I was getting tired. That was better for keeping me awake than music.

ive heard too many stories about how xm and sirius are just waiting to get everyone signed up and sucked in before the marketing bombardment starts...

IF you get truly get uninterrrupted genre specific tunes piped in without interruption then the 10 to 12 bucks a month might be reasonable...

so....for me....i just load up what i want to hear and go....

i do have about 9000 songs on my laptop to choose from though :)

in fact....now that i think about it.....if anyone is interested in trading some digital music.....ummm....for evaluation purposes only ....id be interested in trading.....

coming to IH soon and will probably have the whole pile with me :)

anyhow.....i prefer the mp3....i have been thinking about splicing into my headset to connect my mp3 player directly to my headset speakers though to avoid some of the system noise on my 99 LT

lastly....i recently got some "earbud" type headphones at Best Buy....they were about $40....pricey for ear buds....but these have a rubber tube that extends into your ear canal.....they are the BEST thing ive found in a long time for riding......they seal out external noise and put the music right to your ear drum.....i think they are JVC brand.....

for what its worth :)
