Ordered my replacement throttle cables, got the bike in zellion pieces, got new Ohlins shocks ready to put on...but on the throttle cables, I have a 02, BMW dealer sold me the replacement cables, but after reading some other throttle cable threads, I find that I need a Twist Grip Mod Kit... which the dealer or parts person didn't mention...

Not having this...I suppose that this kit is necessary and replaces the old tract kit on the throttle on my 02..

BTW they sold me 32 73 7 694 490 ...40.00
32 73 7 694 491 ...57.00

Couldn't tell if you know the part number for the kit, Don. Here 'tis.

32 72 7 691 990 --- least that's what Hank @ Rhinewest has on my invoice. $25.

Best

BestThanks Dick, I saw a post where they listed the mod kit, I'll give them a call tomorrow and thanks for the part number.

See you at CCR, if not before...

Hey Don, check your e-mail! Also, check out this thread: http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2338&highlight=Throttle+Cables

It has a post by our good friend across the pond, David
who has a link to another post which has great pics of the New Gen Cables! Plus you can see what some of our other members have to say about them new cables.

Thanks for the in depth info John. I've ordered the cables and "Mod" kit for mine. The parts will be in next Wednesday and it should be easier armed with all the info here.

John,

You and Ken tried mine out and I'm thinkin' you both like how they work/feel? I'm hoping to get cleared to ride a week from Monday so I can check them out for myself. Hey Ken? Gunna bring up some Ohlins to install while you're up this way?:D

Here is what I recently bought and installed. They feel good and the throttle snaps back when released. It was never this smooth with the OEM cables and the second set I put on at 36k miles.

Parts List:
Throttle Repair:

1 - REP.KIT ACCELERATOR CABLE DEFLECTION 32 72 7 691 990
1 - THROTTLE CABLE BREAK CONTACT 32 73 7 694 490
1 - ACCELERATOR CABLE, CONECTOR 32 73 7 694 491
1 - HANDLEBAR COVER BOTTOM RIGHT 46 63 7 694 728 (not needed if you drill/dremel a slot in your old cover. besides the new cover is most likely not going to color match anyway)
2 - CLAMP (2 of them?) 32 73 1 465 257 (not needed if you carefully remove your cables and not break the plastic clamps that help guide the cable housings)

The biggest thing I can say about your new throttle cables is that I never even noticed them while riding. I think that's about as good of an improvement as you can hope for. Now if my '02 suddenly feels stiff in comparison then I'll book time in Ernie's Shop for sure. So far it feels fine with the 2nd generation cables.

As for Öhlins or equivalent, I gotta get paid for all this work first. But I'll have them well before CCR, that's for sure. Gotta be able to keep up with Joe's Ninja on the Dragon. :D
