View Full Version : International Motorcycle Show

The Cycle World International Motorcycle Show is only a couple months off (December 2-4). I enjoy a show where you can touch and actually sit on bikes as well as visit with NW dealers. (The exception is Honda, they are much too important to talk to you unless you wait your turn at the counter. You will also find that some of their bikes are just too special and must be displayed so that people like you and me can't get too near them.) Oops, where did those old Honda wounds come from. Sorry...
Anyway, anyone interested in a cold weather ride up to Qwest Field for the show on Saturday, December 3rd? I'm sure it won't be raining. It hardly ever rains in December. Who's in?

As long as it ain't freezing that is. Ice and me on 2 wheels is not something I wish to be doing! Lets revisit this when it gets closer anyway Dan.

Dan,
If this year is like every other year, I will most likely be there every day of the show. I just have so many things to see and do that I cannot get it all done in one day. ~;-)
Count me in. Heck if it's ugly out, we just take 4 wheels. (I have no shame!)
Looking forward to it.

I'm in. Any day for a ride as long as it isn't ice.
Besides, I'm only 20-25 minutes down the road anyway (too bad).

Dan,
I should be able to go. I went last year and it was great. Chance of snow that time of the year is pretty slim. Unless your coming over one of the passes. As the day gets closer we may want to think about breakfast on the way. Can you make it to the tech session on the 30th?

:D This looks like a good event. There isn't a lot of information on the web site that you provided but there is some. It looks like there will be discounts tickets from some of the local dealers. It would be cool to get a head count and get some discount tickets. Could save enough for part of a hotdog or something?

Usually the discount tickets are a dollar off. I live about 4 miles from the bmw dealership, Maybe I can swing by before the show.

Brain,
I have been remodeling our kitchen and I'm getting worn out. I have to go back to work on Mondays just to rest up. I think I will ask my doctor for a note. I'm sure it must be a physical and mental health requirement that I have a day off for the tech session.
I'll definitely give it a try.

I won't be making this trip. Marcia and I and family will be moving mom inlaw to new house that weekend. It would be a fun trip though.

John,
As we discussed at dinner, the bike show is just a couple weeks off. What day is everyone going up to Seattle?

On when to go, I guess it might depend on whether one is doing the Toys for Tots run or not. I believe Steve mentioned something about the run being the same weekend? I'm open at this point, unless something work related pops up (or comes down in my case with the aircraft!) I can probably adjust to whatever works for everyone else.
Maybe Art can chime in here and give his 2 cents.

Group,
Since we usually work both events - Here are some thoughts. The ride part of the Toy Run officially starts at 1pm and rides to the capital buildings. So - you are looking at a 2:30 or 3 by the time you are down there and have delivered your toys. The bike show is open late on Saturday. Last year we did the Toy Run then I went on up to Seattle to the bike show till late.
We also work the bike show on Sunday mornings so we will be there as well.
Both events are usually a lot of fun.
Also - There is another motorcycle show in the area in January - The Vancouver Internetional Motorcycle show is in Abottsford BC on Jan 26-29. Last year there were at least 5 new bikes there that were not shown in Seattle plus a few european bikes that are not sold in the US.

We'll be traveling to Seattle early for a 09:30 appointment with Ride West BMW. It's time to clear the records on the two recalls on our '02. Depending on their schedule I'm thinking we'll take public transportation to the show for a few hours. Perhaps we'll see you there.

I've seen $2 off coupons at Hinshaw's in Auburn...might try there.
I too will be going at least 2 of the days; one day for me and one day with the family and some kids I promised.
I'll likely hit Friday after work and then Sat or Sunday.

How about Sunday. I live near the 124th exit on I-405 on the Eastside. There is a Brown Bag restaurant at 116th and I-405. Anyone interested in meeting there Sunday December 4th at 8:30AM.
I'm flexible on the time or restaurant. Just let me know if your interested.

Well, the weather doesn't look too great for the show. I particularly don't like forecasts of rain along with a low of 29 and high of 43. A few vehicles found my usual ramp to 205 to be somewhat like a ski jump this morning. They got to the freeway, but I had to give them a low score for their landings.
Anyone interested in sharing a cage Saturday morning?

Lets not get carried away here Dan, The show is 5 or 6 days away and you know our weather people are not good for more than 12 hours! Now if you are planning a contingency plan...... Have we all agreed on what day and time we are going?

Nov 28th, 2005, 9:32 pm
Hey Dan, if we make it up to the show at all, it will almost undoubtedly be in a cage. Not just due to the weather, but also due to an undesired gift from our kids who were home for Thanksgiving: Colds! Maybe. Right now we're a little under the weather health wise, but we'll see how things are come Friday!

It is so much easier to cage...that gives you a place to put all of your new purchases.:p
We are planning on Saturday. How about everyone meeting at the Magnesium Black LT at the Ride West/South Sound BMW booth at certain time?
I vote 2PM.
Is that doable?

Saturday at any time sounds good to me, Coni has a good idea. Lets meet at the LT. 2pm works for me. Are we meeting to view the show or to gather in a group for food and BEER?

Bruce - ya know; I'm reading this thread and thinking about how bummed I still am cuz I missed the show in Houston. I'm reading about Coni suggesting the meet-up at the LT; about you meeting the folks you already know, plus new ones that you've not yet met; and others that sound just as excited about going cuz y'all are. Then it dawned on me - I wuzn't/aren't bummed cuz I missed the show - it's cuz I missed the friendz and the facez and the camaradarie!! I'm thinkin' what kinda fun would I have if I just went to one of them shows by myself?! Walked around and window shopped and ogled and all that, solo!! OK - if I had a fat checkbook, maybe I could have some temporary fun; butt the real reason I've gone in the past wuz to be with the folks that keep my passion pot stirred. Ain't gonna miss it again, you can make bet.
Really glad y'all are gonna share the show and the camaradarie and the ogling and the tire kickin' and the Xmas list wishin'. Have fun - ride safe.

The show was great and it was fantastic to see the old and new faces. Finally got to meet Coni and her husband, Very nice people. I saw a canyon red Lt in the parking garage, Anyone from here? John,Hopefully your ride home was uneventful. I thought about it to late, but I should have invited you back for dinner, AS you know I am only a few minute detour on your ride home. I had chicken Quesadia's with hatch NM green chili's. YUM! Thanks for the tour of the show!

Dang it Dick,
We missed seeing you buddy!
Sure was fun to see the gang and what a great group it *really* is.
There was not one person there that wasn't a whole lot of fun.
Gene, it was really nice to see my "Boise Buddy" up in the great northwest. I am so glad to have John and Gene around this area. I sure hope that we can get Bruce and Brian and the group together for a ride.
I was a whole lot of jealous once I saw the nice tee shirts from Raffy. Raf, please don't stop making those!
I went and sat on the Yamaha FJR again and I still think it has tooo much forward lean for me, butt I sure would like to rent the "automatic" for a day. I wonder how many main components I could blow on that one. <EG>
Isn't it a shame that every day isn't IMS day?:sun:

Great to see everyone again gang. Gene, Bruce, Brian, and especially "Miss Manners"! Oh, yeah Brian, now you think of dinner! That's OK, I munched on the ride home, and made it in great time with no hangups anywhere along the old I-5 corridor. Busy though!
Like Coni suggested, we really do need to see about some kind of a Pacific NW group ride when the weather turns nice again though. maybe an overnight get together somewhere in this beautiful corner of the country we call home?

I agree - great to see you all again, and I look forward to a group ride come spring! I understand Dick's sentiments completely; the best part of having my LT has been the new friends I have that I never would have met without it! Gotta go now, before I get all choked up...

All,
I made it at 2pm no problem, but I committed a huge tactical error....I realized that, as the new guy, I didn't know what anybody looked like!!! Usually it is easy to find folks by looking for riding gear, but this is NOT the case at a m/c show. I felt like the lost chick in the Dr Seuss book "Are You My Mother?" Ugh.
Anyway, hope everyone had fun, I sure did. In fact, I went back on Sunday.
Looking forward to future rides as a group.
