Reading through some recent threads, I just can't help but think how interesting next year's CCR is going to be. I'm getting the feeling that some newer members like O o and BrainFry think that us OLD GUYS ride these LTs like we're a bunch of Wingers. Just because these guys don't have sportbikes listed in their signature, or a sportbike in their avatar does not mean that they can't ride. And don't get me wrong....I assure you that I am not the fastest or most aggressive rider on this forum. But I'd bet I'm in the upper 20%. I personally invite you to come show me your madd skillz at Road Atlanta! :p

So...all of you who think you're ALL THAT, we'll see ya at CCR next year, right? I'm not saying y'all can't ride. But, don't be surprised when some 'old fart' passes you. Heck...I'm bringing my ZX-11 (or whatever sportbike I have at that time), and I won't be surprised if one of these crazy "oltimers" passes me riding that.

Hey, Joe... don't mean to burst your bubble... but I'm actually older
than you.

Yep...I knew that. But don't worry, I ride like an old fart. Slow and steady...the way you're SUPPOSED to ride an LT. :D

See ya on the track. http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/images/smilies/yesnod.gif

There's always someone faster, there's always someone slower. Regardless
of where or what you're riding. I'm sure there are plenty of fast LT riders
on here/out there... I'm just saying that with the exception of my friend
and riding buddy, "Fastpapaw"... I haven't seen any... YET.

My only concern is getting blinded by Motolight Mania after I pass you. Think you can crank those down for a couple of laps? ;)

And yep, I'm looking forward to a place to ride with no buffalo and no speed limits. But someone else will have to take the pics, 'cause I won't care about anything except catching up to the next guy . . .

Yep, this is gonna be fun. :)

Hey, even though I just sold the wing I was still pretty quick on the dragon. (For an old fart and winger).

If you insist. ;)

I'm still bummed that we only got to ride together on 45 mph roads in Wyoming. No such restrictions next year. :) Of course, I've only been on the Dragon once, on someone else's LT, and I hear you've had a bit more practice there.

As for your Ninja versus your LT, I still can't believe you're considering trailering down to Atlanta. I can't even begin to think of the possible retorts there. Unless you're planning on hauling the Ninja behind the LT?

The testosterone is flowing already! In true NASCAR tradition, this could make for considerable amusement as a spectator: how many LTs will be thrown down on the track at Road Atlanta ?? Can't wait! :D

Nice ride there, David. Brings back memories.

Grif, of course you realize that Barbara was making some of those same noises while she and I were playing there. :) Maybe less scraping, but she sure was singing.

Dang, now I gotta get Ohlins or Wilbers before August. Or maybe a K12GT. :D

And Bob, the trick is to not lay it down. Sliding really messes up your lap times. And yeah, maybe a bit of testosterone, but it sure beats Bitch Moan & Whine, doesn't it?

Yeppir, I've heard them noises and then lean the bod harder into the turn to minimize them. I did jack my rear wheel off the ground with the center stand whilst riding at the spring training camp, thought I had just stepped out on a pebble or somethang. The color smoothe drained from the face when the guy riding behind me told me about it. She sure can sing and I think you'll be surprised at perkiness now.

I think sliding down the track would sure mess up more than my lap time, might mess up my hair, too!

Yessir...I think next year's CCR is going to be the MAC DADDY of all CCRs. Of course, it's only my 3rd one. But...you take Deal's Gap, the Cherohala Skyway, the north Georgian mountain roads, and top them all off with Road Atlanta! Are you kidding me?! Testosterone my eye! We're talking about nothing BUT pure adrenaline!!! WOOHOO!!!!! Yippee OH KAYAH!!!

Once you wear out those little screws in the pegs you can start dragging the center stand......Here is part two...Next year i'll be slayin the dragon on the LT......Oh yea, I never had one of those stuffed animals on the back of my Wing...

Enjoy!!!

Okay, you youngsters (Joe) -- just rememeber that old age a treachery will triumph over youth and skill every time! I remember this lesson well from getting dusted by a cigar-chomping 80 year old on a track a few (well, few is relative) years ago in an SCCA race. Now that I've reached treachery territory....

Joe, Joe, Joe. Lucky for you I am running Metz's on the 03! Since I run the Dragon and Cherohala on a regular basis, I am used to running with your Bro's on their sport bikes and me on the LT! One look at my center stand and you can see the proof!
So, if we are able to ride the track I may be spectatin'. But the track sounds good!

So, this is all the trash talk I can dish out to my yankee friend! As they used to say on Sanford and Son, "watch it sucker"!

One last thing, I rode with a buddy of mine to the gap a few months, he rides a wing and rides pretty hard, but since our LT's handles the roads better I was all over him for the 11 miles. He couldn't beleive it!

See ya' my yankee friend! Don't get too cold up there!

Hey Joe

I just got back from the Dragon..with the Rocket..2 cars in the way...waited for them to pull over to pass them..running metz tires with full air pressure

This Ol Man ran the Dragon in just over 9 min. Not bad for a an Old Fluff.

Just try to stay out of the way...when the Ol folks go by

Stay safe be good and have fun my friend

Ken, You'd best be dragging something on every turn if you're going to keep up with me and tmgs on 'the Dragon'. That pic shows an awful lot of lean angle left before touch-down. Of course...looks more like you're flying through a sweeper, than a tight curve.

Nice pic, though. Don't mean to take anything away from it. :)

Yep, that was on a long, fast right hand sweeper (easier for the photographer to follow the bike and focus). Save the peg dragging for those sharp, tight corners where you just touch down briefly to know where the limits are. That was also early in the day, where we were all getting familiar with the track.

I still say that making sparks isn't necessarily the fastest way around the corner, any more than loud pipes will make you faster. It may feel like that, but we all know it isn't true. And the fact that I wore to the very edge of the tires and a little beyond (as the rear twitched) shows that the big beast was being pushed about as much as it could be with my touring-oriented setup. Had I Ohlins, Pilot Sport race tires, about 50 more horsepower and about 150 pounds lighter and maybe we could've played a bit more.

We did have a guy show up on a K12RS that had the pegs and lower fairing about ground off when he arrived at the track. In fact, he passed me on Highway 33 on the way there. He was obviously comfortable pushing his bike to the edge on every corner. He also managed to low side on our very first track session. Overconfidence, cold tires, not knowing the track yet, and a bit too much throttle did him in. After we cut off half his damaged throttle grip, re-bent his brake levers, un-kinked his throttle cables, and removed various dangling bits of fairing, he went back out, although quite a bit more humble. Oh, and we also had a guy overcook the same sweeper that the pic was taken on and run way off into the dirt. I just ignored the dust cloud and concentrated on making my corner.

I had a lot of fun, but the beast sure is heavy. I know the LT isn't a track bike, but it is what I ride, and what I wanted to learn to ride better. I think I accomplished that, and surprised a few people along the way. However, there were several times when I wished I'd had your Ninja to play with instead. Or maybe the HP2 GS that the guy had fitted out super-moto style. Now that looked like fun. I wonder if I could get a track bike and tow it behind the LT? :)

Oh, and we're still cool, Joe. I'll just ding you a couple of reputation points, and then move on. ;) I'm looking forward to riding with you without 45 mph speed limits and buffalo to worry about.
