Did a quick search for this but must not have used the right wording, this has to have been covered before.

I've seen several pictures with LT's having handlebar mirrors attached. Do these install in the holes located inboard of the brake and clutch levers? Are they a standard size for all bikes or do I need to look for something special? Is there a certain kind to get?

I'd like to add to my rearward visibility a bit. Help is always appreciated. Thanks.

The Mickey Mouse mirrors from the older K1200RS (98-01) fit in the unused mirror boss on the handlebars. I've also seen people use the mirrors from the newer K1200RS (02-04) as well.

I'm thinking of putting 4" round adhesive mirrors on my stock LT mirrors. I have used these on every car I've owned for many years; they eliminate all blind spots and the look over the shoulder that's usually required before changing lanes.

I ordered a set of the K1200RS mirrors, not sure which year, and put them on my '05 K1200LT and would not go back to the stock mirrors. They are much superior in field of view and ease of use compared to the stock mirrors.

I found when carrying a 14" x36" duffel across the rear seat that my stock mirrors were usless.

Have been very happy with a prduct from www.saeng.com They eliminate the rather large blindspot the bike has on both sided. I have not finalized the location for placement, presently have them mounted on the inside curve of a stock shield. When the snow leaves and i am installing the farkels I have so far acquired, i will most likely be moving them to the outside surface of the shield for a little wider viewing area

Near the top right of every page is a Technical link, look under that for Accessories (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/faq.php?faq=bmwlt_net_faq#faq_accessories_faq), then find the Part Numbers (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/faq.php?faq=accessories_faq#faq_accessories_faq_partnumbers) link. Scroll down or search for "RS Mirrors" and you'll find:

The following part numbers are for the 2002 Oval RS mirrors that will fit in the LT handle bars

511 676 537 73 Left mirror
511 676 537 74 Right mirror
511 623 696 07 washers
511 623 282 87 nuts

Obviously you need one of each side mirror, and two each of the washers and nuts. All parts should be around $100 shipped.

I was gonna post a pic of the mirrors, but then realized there is one in my avatar. :)

Could you post one that shows, up close, just one side of the handlebar (i.e., one mirror)? I'm curious what this looks like. IIRC you have removed the stock LT mirrors and nothing is in their place. Maybe a second pic of a mirror from the rider's perspective.

Have you seen the pics (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?p=38489#post38489) that David taylor posted? There are some good shots of the RS mirrors there.

I've attached a drawing of the mirror from the BMW parts catalog. They bolt into the existing holes on the handlebar controls. Hope that helps.

Someone on another forum that I frequent gave me a link to the MultiVex Mirrors (http://www.multivexmirror.com/).

http://www.multivexmirror.com/images/products/01047LH.jpghttp://www.multivexmirror.com/images/products/01048RH.jpg

They do list a specific part number for the LT (03-05) -

01047LH
01048RH 03-05 BMW

Maybe I am wrong, but aren't the mirrors the same for all years of the 1200LT??

I remember seeing those in relation to the jpeg discussion, but totally looked past the mirrors. Thanks for sharing the catch.

Thanks for the link, and that looks like some good technology, but unless they can somehow bend light around corners I really don't thing they will be useful on the LT. Probably still much better than the stockers...

My biggest problem was seeing directly behind me, and the RS mirrors do the trick, look good, don't vibrate and install easily. They are relatively (we are talking BMW here...) inexpensive as well. I only use the stock mirrors now for backing up.

I've never looked back. (was that a pun? :D )

Now I understand why you just took yours off... and left it that way!

Hmmm, I think you may want to consider keeping that *look over the shoulder* habit....no matter what you're driving. ;)

All it takes is ONE time.

All it takes is ONE time. :eek:Big 10-4 on that, Ron. I always always always do the shoulder check while on the bike. With the 4" adhesive mirrors I refer to on my cars (I should go snap a photo and post, but I'm sure you've seen these) I NEVER check the shoulder; simply look in the mirror. No car there means nothing in the "original" car mirror's blind spot. They are awesome and I don't know why all drivers in the known universe don't use them. Proof for me that they are a good thing is that my kids (one a former teenage driver, one still a teenage driver) like them.

So.... could these be used on the LT with the same effectiveness AND safety?

I always wondered why the manufacturer's don't use the convex mirrors in the first place

I had these mirrors installed ar Iron Horse BMW in Tucson on my 06 LT. They go in the holes on the handle bars and look & work great :) . I find my self using them more than the stock mirrors. I use the stock mirrors to see right beside me and angle the handlebar mirrors out for the next lane. They were $126.54
511 676 537 73 Left mirror
511 676 537 74 Right mirror
511 623 696 07 washers
511 623 282 87 nuts
Have fun ......
