Well this one turned out to be a little trickier than I expected.

Upon dissasembly of the stingray control unit I found all the lamps in the buttons and the display LCD to be led's already. The ones for the display were SMD's.

Since I didn't want to tear the thing up and change out the led's I opted to get some 3M Tailight repair tape and used that to convert the lamps...The original lamps are yellow so there was no problem doing the conversion.

I cut a strip of the repair tape about 3/8" wide and 4 1/4" long to cover the SMD Led's for the display and worked it over the led's using a small crochet hook and jewlers tweezers. I then cut 3/8" square pieces of the tape and pushed them into the holes on the buttons for the single led's. Volia ! conversion...

Pictures Attached...:D Looks Great !

Man, that is slick. How long did it take?

Once I had all the stuff. it only took about an hour...But I had the Stingray off already so you'd have to figure at least another two hours to tear apart and pull the radio controls out and put it all back together. I really wasn't difficult, just took a little time and effort to get down to the circuit board.

Looks good John...

Guess I am going to have to buy some of those bulbs for the dash and come by and let you hold my hand while I make the dash mod and this one!

You can do it yourself Shawn, It's not that big a deal...Might as well include an HID while your at it and got it all apart... If I can do it, so can you :)
It really looks good at night. The stingray is not quite as bright as the dash bulbs are , but at least it's red..:D

I figured I could - was just being lazy... ;)

Maybe in April I'll give it a stab...

I put a HID in right after I got the bike - I was never so scared in my life (I was horribly mechanically challenged back then - slightly better now) - but with a lot of hand holding from Raffy and a couple others all went well.

Jpspen, did you do a red light conversion for the on-board computer too?

With my red dash lights and red radio backlighting, the on-board computer now stand out like a sore thumb. I took the unit out of the dash, but am scared to disassemble it for fear of breaking something. It looks like at can be opened up...but I'm scared.

Help me Obiewan Kenobee...you're my only hope.

Thanks, Toolman

Hi John,

Finally got the bulbs pulled with the aid of some pliers. Thanks for the red bulb idea. I am now doing the radio but need a little more help. Are the SMDS the small white chingaderras below the display screen (looking at it from the rear?)
see picture and what I am pointing at.

I cut a strip of the repair tape about 3/8" wide and 4 1/4" long to cover the SMD Led's for the display and worked it over the led's using a small crochet hook and jewlers tweezers.

Thanks for the help.
