View Full Version : Where would you mount the "Sunlight Sensor"..??

In process of installing a high beam, headlight modulator on my 03 LT. The manual says to mount the sunlight sensor vertically with an unobstructed view of the sky. The manual also says to make certain oncoming traffic can't give the sensor false sunlight indications.

The sensor cable is only about 2' long and has to reach the back of the headlamp assembly.

I would very much appreciate input before drilling a hole that I later regret!

I put mine in the channel under the windshield. That is the lower edge of the instrument panel cover. I had it a little to the outside of the windshield actuation arms, on the left side. Worked great there. I had a picture somewhere, but have not found it on my computer yet.

I mounted mine on the flat part of the deck just below the BC.

Easy to get to by just removing the mirror on the left side.

I mounted mine in the right mirror hole in the handlebar. I plan to move it to the left side soon, as I want to use the right side hole for a RAM camera mount.

I ran mine up the left handle bar under the plastic sheathing and have it peeking out where the clutch lever boss and that sheathing meet.

I rarely use the hi-beam at night with my lo-beam HID, so I haven't noticed any moulator actuation by ambient light sources.

Gentlemen,

Thanx again for all the suggestions.

I have been weighing the input.

I considered a handlebar location, but already have my XM radio and antenna on the bars with their respective wires passing through the opening in the fairing.

I like the idea of a "hidden" location in the windshield channel.

I also like the "below the BC display" approach on the horizontal section of black plastic. A bit more "here is my sunlight sensor, doesn't it look good!" type of approach.

Seems like everyone is happy with performance of their units in all three locations, so it will come down to wiring access and esthetic preference! I'll have to chuck-up a bit and make a decision!

I'm not drilling until Saturday, so if you have any last minute thoughts, please take the time to respond...

Cliff, I'm with Dave , mounted mine on the flat spot below the BC. Easy to do and looks good too. ;)

I put mine in the channel under the windshield and have never had a problem. Of course if you want it as a sparkle put it below the trip computer.
