I received my new Russell seat(s) yesterday and all is finally well with one exception. Can anyone please tell me what the two (one is red the other black) leads with the spade connector terminals are used for? In addition to these two leads there are two more (one red and one black) with round 'eye' connector terminals which I assume are for the power and ground to be connected directly to the battery. All of these (leads) are on the rider seat. The passenger seat just has two separate (red/black) leads for power and ground.
I still do not understand why Russell would not/could not install the BMW 'male' connectors like Corbin does. I wouldn't be wastin' anyone's valuable time if they did! Anyhoo, thank you very much in advance for your help and/or advice.

Sincerely,

My mistake. I failed to disclose that my stock '05 LT seats were unheated versions when I sent them in to Russell for upfitting. Perhaps now, someone mucho smarter than me can advise me on what/how to get the heating elements hooked up and running. Thank you in advance!

Bruce:

Check under the rider seat area on the bike and look for a two-pin white connector at the edge of the tank (left side). You may need to get a molex two-pin corresponding connector to plug in the wires from Russell.

Although it looks like a Molex brand connector it is made by ATC - VERY similar.

I tried to source the connector locally, nationally and finally E-mailed ATC with their part number which is printed on the plug - they wrote me back saying that it is a BMW proprietary connector and not available - it has a special shape on the innards.

However, with an exacto knife and a regular old common battery connector you can shave off a small slice of the nylon "shape" on one side and it will slide right in securely to the BMW connector - it just won't have the locking tab feature - no biggie.

Clamp that puppy in a vice securely before shaving, or you may be missing a digit in the bargain.

I'm kinda surprised Russell doesn't do this for their customers - the plug costs about 50 cents and it takes about 5 minutes to shave, crimp and put heat shrink tubing around it.
