Honda of Hollywood... A name that will live forever in infamy!
I know I know... I paraphrase but I have every reason to be frustrated, upset, and distrusting.
My 99 LT was rear-ended late in November in my underground garage... I found the culprit and his insurance paid Honda of Hollywood over $6,500 to fix the bike. All the damage was cosmetic. The trunk (lower and upper), tip-over wing, both panier side guard, one panier cover, the rear light assembly, nose cone, headlight assembly, right mirror, right lower panel had to be replaced.
The bike stayed at the dealership for over a month and a half. Partially because the insurance adjuster was less than motivated... and with the holiday season upon us she didn't feel like working hard (she kind of told me that, but with different wording). The dealership took over a week just to come up with the list of parts needed and pricing. To add insult to injury some parts had to come from Germany. But after a month and a half Honda of Hollywood replaced the nose cone and headlight assembly and a few other parts, just enough to get the bike legally drivable.
When I picked the bike up I immediately notice rust spots on the bolds holding the front rotors, meaning the bike had been sitting outside in the rain, or at least not properly protected from the elements. The battery was so low that the dreadful "No Radio" signal appeared on my display and the bike didn't crank up when I brought it home and let it sit in the garage for the weekend. The headlight was cranked all the way up and I got flashed a lot and night AND during the day. The adjusting knob was was not connected. The winglet were totally loose (attached firmly to the bike but pivoting just at the touch of a finger).

When the remainder of the parts came in I was asked to bring the bike back so the job could be finished... and my complaints addressed. I dropped the bike off at 9:30 am. and came to pick it up at 7:00 p.m. The bike still was not finished but the headlight had been adjusted. The new trunk had been installed but was extremely hard to close (I was afraid to break the Handle), the radio still was not working, the rust spots still there, the BMW emblem missing, the trunk mirror still broken, and the headlight adjustment know still not hooked up.
I was asked to bring the bike back the next morning and offered a ride to work. Bike in again at Honda of Hollywood around 10:00 a.m. on Valentine's Day. When I called about getting a ride back to the dealership I was told the bike still wasn't finished... the driver was stuck in traffic and "Would it be possible to keep the bike overnight?"
I told them I was stranded at work and needing a ride back to their shop and must have the bike that night. They promised to send their driver at 6:30 p.m. I had dinner reservations at 7:30 for Valentines' day!!!
The poor driver was stuck in traffic and showed up at 7:30, got me at Honda of Hollywood around 8:00 p.m. (Service closes at 7:00). One look at my (dirty) bike and I knew it was far from being finished. Headlight, rust, trunk, winglets, etc... were the same. They just added the missing rivets on the paniers, placed the BMW logo on the trunk... and I think tha'ts all they did all day. They did not even bother to re-attach the retaining belt in the trunk, the liner was still loose. I still have not heard back from them...
I placed a call with Billy Robertson (Owner and GM for the Motorcycle Service) and with the Service manager. So far no one even returned my call.
I am at my wits end and don't know what to do next.
I don't think I was getting my $85.00/hour worth from the "mechanic", my bike is still unfinished, Honda of Hollywood collected the insurance money so there is no incentive for them to complete the job. I totally distrust them at this point and I wish I could take the bike elsewhere and have Honda of Hollywood pick up the tab since they already collected the money they didn't earn.

I'm sympatetic with your frustation, but them the question had to came:
By their own web site:
Honda of Hollywood in Hollywood, California is your motorcycle, ATV, scooter, watercraft, utility vehicles and generator dealer for Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, BMW and Sea-Doo.

BMM is a mere list on a long list of brands. I never been in one multi-bike dealer who did a got job with BMW.
I'm assuming you are stuck with them by the insurance co. and cannot change to another one right? :(

I met with the service manager and he promised that my bike will be completed on Wednesday. The dealer will come get my bike from my office in the morning and bring it back finished (and washed) in the afternoon.:)
So far that sounds good... now I have yet to see if it materializes!
I tried to remain calm and express my frustration to the service manager, and I guess it helped a little. It took a lot of restraint though... :bmw:

Then it got worse...
Wednesday pick up became Friday... The driver shows up with a pickup truck, lowers the ramp... I pull up with the bike, ask him what to do.
"Do you want me to ride up the ramp?"
"OK!" he said...
The bike never made it all the way. The center/side stand assembly did not clear and got torn off. The worst part is that the assembly is attached to the transmission casing and the brackets are torn off.
Now the dealer says it was my fault as the driver never told me to go ahead and ride up.
I am beyond frustrated!!!
Now have to call my insurance company and see it they will cover this, and I'll have to pay a $500.00 deductible...

My insurance says that because I was riding the bike at the time of the accident I am at fault and my premium will go up. If I do the "right" thing and report to the DMV this will also affect my driving record...!!!
Will this nightmare even end???
And when you think I even bought a new car from these guys a few years back... .
Now my bike at their shop, and while it is ridable I have no way to park it since there are no stands left...
Most likely they will pick up my deductible, and yet make more money fixing my bike.
In the future I will never offer to help loading the bike up...! The liability is too great and I have nothing to gain.:(

Did you say this bike is bike shop or did you make a mistake. Sounds like a circus to me.

Sometimes you just got to stop being a nice guy. The incompetency of the service industry today is disgusting.

A friend of mine recently took his new GM in for service. He got it back overfilled by 1 quart of oil and a gallon of washer solvent on the front seat.

Apparently he didn't need the washer solvent but they didn't want to let him out without it so the charged him the $2.95 for the solvent.

"Don't worry about the oil we'll take care of it the next time you come in.".

I suggest you pay this outfit a visit and raise some hell.

Sometimes the info you get by calling an insurance company is just plain wrong.

It might be that if you try and report this as an accident to DMV, they would laugh.

I dunno?

Telling you it is your fault for not knowing the pick up truck and ramp combo would damage your bike is just plain silly. At the very least, the driver should have known no one could ride the bike up the ramp.

To add insult to injury, the employees down there at Honda of Hollywood have a surplus of "we're too cool for you customers" attitude. Man I hate that place.

Anyway, you do have the right to take the bike to a shop of your choice; the insurance company has no say in the matter. See Cal. Civ. C. Sec. 1874.87(b)(1); 10 CCR 2695.85. If you can stomach the transport fees, I believe Brown BMW in Pomona is a thousand-fold better than HoH. Good Luck.

The main thing everyone should know is that when another party is at fault in damaging your vehicle you are intitled to an equal vehicle until yours is ready. This means that person or their insurance company needs to rent you an LT or similar bike while you wait for yours to be repaire. Same goes if you own a Mercedes. Do not settle for a basic rental car. Have them get you another Mercedes. This does depend on how much insurance coverage the person that hit you carries. Don't even ask how I know all this.

A little bit of good news... The insurance agreed to replace the entire tranny.

While the dealer has the bike apart I will see if I need a new clutch (the bike has only 31K miles and is a 99) and maybe replace the slave cylinder on my dime.
This poor bike will have gone through Hell and back but will be like new. Much of the rear plastic was replaced, including the entire trunk, paniers, plus new nose cone and headlight assembly.
I was planning on selling it since I just bought an 03... but since I owe little on that bike maybe I should keep it... Decisions, decisions!!!
When all is said and done I will bid farewell to HoH and start visiting the Moorpark dealer...

All this because of a teenager bumping in to your parked bike. Sheesh, I'd be pretty aggravated too. Good luck getting it all sorted, Gilles.

Hey Gilles,

I would recommend West Valley Cycle Sales in Winnetka. They have been great and are much closer than Moorpark.

Hey Gilles,

I would recommend West Valley Cycle Sales in Winnetka. They have been great and are much closer than Moorpark. They were the first dealer I tried... and "she" turned me down for the repairs of my bike. The first question they asked me was: "Did you buy your bike here?" When I said No, "she" told me they were too busy and too small for another bike. I think anyone who shops there knows who "she" is:rolleyes:

So far I have had great luck with BMW of Ventura.:thumb:
Of course I have my little routine every time I go there... taking the PCH, then running the 23 hwy northbound (a winding little canyon with hairpin turns:p ), then back on the 101 for just a few miles. I do that both ways, turning that 40 mile ride into a 75 scenic tour... each way.:D
They have loaner bikes and offer rider and/or towing for free...

Wow--turning away business! I'm shocked!
