View Full Version : Anyone with Remus can on 1200RT?

I checked out a 1200RT and was favorably impressed. However, the stock exhaust sounds rather "stock" and quiet in my opinion. I'm looking for improved sound, but within the limits of the law. I see that the remus exhaust is "EC road legal," so I assume it's probably o.k. here in the states. Can anybody tell me the decibel increase between a remus and the stock? How do you like it? Are there positive and negatives? I did see a dyno run, can't remember the source, and the horsepower increase was only about 3, but the RT has plenty of power already.

Thanks,

Tom

I see that unfortunately, there have not been any responses to your inquiry regarding the Remus exhaust. I too have an RT and am looking to replace the heavy exhaust with a different sound set of pipes.

I was warned by a BMW dealer parts guy about increasing the sound level because on long rides it may be an issue as opposed to just short day trips. That really bothered me because even though my bike is not my primary source of transportation, the rides I do take are usually all day and often overnight 2+ day ride excursions.

I am more interested in getting rid of the heavy catalytic converter than the sound.

A friend of mine has a GS and when we ride he puts in ear plugs and he has an aftermarket exhaust, not Remus so maybe that is a clue on which way to go.

Again, I hope that your post gets more replies as I am sitting on the fence on this one.

I can't say much about the Remus system from my personal experience, but I think you will find this post from the BMWRT site very informative.

I installed a complete Remus system: (headers and can) and it makes a noticeable difference to throttle response, power (torque) and sound. The sound is not too loud nor disturbing for long trips as long as you leave the Remus can in it's standard configuration. I would highly recommend the entire system vs just the can.

Hi all - first post here!

I have the Remus slip-on (rear) section fitted with standard headers, and the sound is muchly improved. I also took out the "homogulator" on installation - it's better to do that with the pipe off the bike, that stainless steel rivet is very hard. Needed a drill press.

The surprise was that while the power improvement is only 3-5%, this is across the entire rev range. The difference is very noticeable and very welcome.

Taking out the 'cat' later made no difference at all.

Cann't speak to the 1200, but I put a Remus on my 1150RT. Sound level was not that much louder, but the tone was deeper. Never felt any difference in acceleration or power with the "butt dyno".

If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't just for the change in tone.

What's the "homogulator"?
