I am planing a road trip to northern Arizona and southern Utah, in June, and will be there June 2nd through June 7th. I will be leaving from Flagstaff, on June 2nd, going to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon; Zion National Park; Cedar City, UT; Bryce Canyon; Hanksville, UT; Moab, UT; Arches National Park, Canyonlands, Blanding, UT; Monument Valley, Four Corners; Cortez, CO; Mesa Verde National Park, Durango, CO and then back home to Columubus, GA.

How difficult will it be to find lodging without reservations during this time period? I'm not sure exactly where I'll be every night so cannot make reservations more than a day or so in advance. Will this be a problem for me? It also looks like there is little lodging in the Monument Valley or Four Corners Area, until I get to Cortez. I think Kayenta, AZ has one motel. Also, how difficult is it to find fuel in these areas?

Any advice, recommendatons, etc., will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Most of the area has pleny of hotel/motels and towns. (exept Monument Valley/Four Cornes).
So since you are not planning on reservations, I would plan to be on those 2 places early in the morning, and then have time to go somewhere if no lodging is available.
For the other places I'm sure you will be able to manage a place to sleep.
Most of those turistic towns have surrinding cities/towns at less then 30 miles. The worst cames to worsty, like you arriving at the place late afternoon, just ride to the next town sleep there and ride back on the next morning.
I will be on Zion from June 16 to 18.

Thanks,

Sounds like I should spent the night in Blanding, UT before heading down to Monument Valley the next morning. That way, I'll have plenty of time to look around and make it to Cortez, CO before night.

Thanks again,

I travel the 4 corners every year, except when I do the 4 corners it is Boston, Key West, San Francisco and Seattle, with lots of zig-zagging in between. I never make reservations and have never been with-out a motel room. I generally look for the smaller "ma and pa" type single storey locations where you park in front of your rooms window and right beside that is the door to your room. (a re-assuring security feature and I hate carrying luggage). They are obviously older buildings but are generally very clean and that is my most important criteria.
I have had the best luck if I stop by 6 PM as after 7 you find that rooms start filling up.

We had no problems with lodging last summer in any of the areas you detailed.

Its going to be hot in June.
I would suggest that you stay at least one or two nights in Moab.
Arches, Canyon Lands and Dead horse point are nearby and will keep you entertained several days.

There's a nice young couple formerly from West Palm FL that runs a reasonably priced motorcycle friendly motel.
They put us in the handicapped room and recommended I park my bike on the ramp under the overhang. :)

If you end up in Page, Az....the Page Boy Motel is a motorcycle friendly inexpensive and clean motel. Owned by motorcyclist and right around the corner from Ken's Steak house...famous for their ribs. They parked us under cover at the office area and gave us pool side rooms with rates just over $40 a night.

We did that entire area last summer a bit later than you plan. It did get a bit warm!

Enjoy,

Ron

School will have just gotten out about that time in most of Utah ... generally the Memorial Day weekend would be very difficult to find a place, but the week after shouldn't be too bad. Weather should be very nice, you'll beat the 'real' heat. Staying at the parks could be difficult, but there is plenty of smaller towns close to the attractions that should be available.

The following weekend 16-18 the Utah Beemer club is having its annual "Red Rock Rendezvous" in Panguitch, sorry we'll miss you.
