Please direct me if this answer already exists in a thread. I looked around, but did not see a category for general "electrical wiring".
I understand the CAN-BUS system used on my 06 LT precludes the simple connecting of devices such as power for my Smartphone, Valentine One and portable media center. I have seen 5 or 6 port power adapters that go right across the battery terminals, with individual circuit fuses in aftermarket catalogues.
1) Is there a reason not to do this?
2) Is there a great solution to provide "quick connect/disconnect" power connections so I can power up accessories when in use, but have dry/ secure circuits when not in use?
3) I used the BMW accessory adpters when I wired up my RT, but do not like the fat plastic connectors that go with this approach.
Thanks.

You need to find a switched power source. Then via a relay, power up a fuse box. Connect your gadgets to the fuse box and you should have no problems. just have to be selective as to which switched hot wire to tap into.

Scott; As far as I understand the 2006 K1200LT does not have the Can-Bus wiring system. I have a 2005 model and it does not. Only the new generation K's and R's have it.
There is some accessory terminal blocks near the battery.

If your bike does have the CAN-BUS then you can get a little goodie from Touratech which allows integration of additional electrical components without causing faults. Check out the following link for a discussion:

I am told that it is "plug and play", and will not void BMW warranties.

I can not find it, but some time ago I saw a great post on adding a relay and fuse box. The relay was on the side under the data plate and the fuse box mounted on the rear fender below the seat. A follow on post in the same thread gave recommendations for relays and how they wired up. Not sure who put it on, but it was very good.

Joe, who makes that fuse block?BUSS brand
I got 3 of them on eBay for something like $15 to my door. They aren't waterproof...but a little dielectric grease here and a little liquid tape there, and you're good to go. I have one on my LT, one on the Ninja, . . . and soon I'll have the third under the nose cone of the LT feeding my HID, cell phone, FRS/GMRS, and other future accessories.
