Affordable Luggage?

Traded In The LT for an R1200GS, Love the GS, miss the luggage space.
I can not afford $1000.00 for saddle luggage, does anyone make saddle bags ( hard or soft) that will fit on the GS and clear the exhaust?
Any help woukd be appreciated

It's funny the different angles you get with the different forums. On the KLR forum you would get a lot of replies saying use GI Ammo cans and the like as cheap luggage. You don't see too many people doing that with the Beemers though. Congrats on the new ride! I've been thinking of trading in my LT as well.

I see BMW Vario cases for sale used all the time, you may want to do some reading on the advrider.com site. There are a lot of options; you may also check with Chicago BMW; 20% discount on new all the time.....

Hepco Becker and Givi both make luggage for BMWs that's about half the price of the BMW luggage. I just got an new RT and I'm getting a GIVI Topcase for the bike.
