Ok I have a set of j-pegs to put on my 05 and am not sure if I want them on my bike. Does anyone have or can take a pic of how the j-pegs look when open from the drivers seat position or from above kinda. Always working on some kinda winter project in order to maintain sanity when I can't ride. Greatly appreciated !

Hey, Marc - I think Raffy sells 'em; he might have a pic or two on his website. I haven't been there lately, so can't swear they're there.

I checked - scroll down near the page bottom here (http://motogear4you.com/mcart/index.cgi?code=3&cat=3). He's got both models of J-pegs shown.

I checked that out but I would like to see from drivers position. Another question though, with J-pegs installed do they have to be removed in order to remove plastic and how difficult it that since I think there are some springs and small stuff?

Take a look in the photo gallery. There are pictures of an install. Not sure if there is a pic from the driver's view.

Yes you will need to remove the pegs and mounting block. It only ads 10-20 minutes max if you are not using a power tool.

I have the XL Jpegs on my 05; here are a few pics I snapped for you. regarding your second post, yes, you must remove them to take the tupperware off. But it's only about a 5 minute operation with hand tools once you've done it once or twice.

That was real nice of you thank you. Exactly what I needed.

What about a view of them, with feet in place, from the side? I'm curious what the leg angle looks like. I'm trying to compare these with the Highway Ottomans.

TIA.

OK .... since we are on the j-peg issue I have a related question. When I bought my '05 LT it came with the starndard J-pegs. At 6'3" tall with a 35" inseam these do not work as well as I would like. I just discovered the XL J-Pegs and was wondering .... how difficult is the swap of the arms and once the XL arms are installed do they fold out of sight as well and the standard arms.

Thanks! This site is great!

Hi, Ed - check Raffy's pages (http://www.motogear4you.com/) out for the two versions of J-pegs. He also has the conversion package which you can use, since you already have the originals.

BTW - I think you're gonna like the newest version. Everyone I know that converted from the originals to the new has had nothing butt favorable comments.

Good luck

I bought the newer J peg and replaced the older ones. Not a big deal--they fold out of sight just like the original.

WAY better with the new ones. I hardly used the older ones (6'2") because they were not comfortable. New J pegs give the leg room actually needed by bigger guys.

I'm 6' 3" with a 32 " inseam and my legs are fairly straight when using the XL. I had standard ones on my 99 LT and my knees were bent at least 30 degrees. I like the XL much better.

I had my wife sitting on the topcase leaned forward shooting over my head. Although I would like to claim it was Meese's approach, that would have probably obscured the lens. :D

To swap them out -
Step 1 - Remove bolt and take away existing arm
Step 2 - Place new arm in its place, replace bolt
Step 3 - Ride

They do fold out of sight when closed. They follow the lines of the tipover wings so it's a very nice fit to the bike.

They look like "k" 1200 RS mirrors. That is a common addition to may RT's as well.

Wow, those are popular! :) I've gotten a few inquiries about those since I posted the JPeg pictures.

Those are K1200RS mirrors from BMW. I believe they used those from 2001 - 2003. They are about $80 a set and mount in the existing mirror holes in the controls. Be sure to have them check the parts diagram so you get the special bolt ($9 each, as always, BMW = bring my wallet) needed to mount them as you can't get a wrench in the space under the controls for a normal nut.

Near the top right of every page is a Technical link, look under that for Accessories (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/faq.php?faq=bmwlt_net_faq#faq_accessories_faq), then find the Part Numbers (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/faq.php?faq=accessories_faq#faq_accessories_faq_partnumbers) link. Scroll down or search for "RS Mirrors" and you'll find:

The following part numbers are for the 2002 Oval RS mirrors that will fit in the LT handle bars

511 676 537 73 Left mirror
511 676 537 74 Right mirror
511 623 696 07 washers
511 623 282 87 nuts

Obviously you need one of each side mirror, and two each of the washers and nuts. All parts should be well under $100 shipped.

Ed,

I think you can order an upgrade kit from cyclegadgets.com. and probably Raffey. They do fold under the tip over wing but be aware that if you drop the bike, even just a parking lot thing, there is a very good chance the pointed tip of the XL J-peg will punch a hole in the lower fairing.

When this happens, just use a dremmel and carve out a nice clean hole so next time there will be no damage. Looks fine and you don't even see the hole unless you are looking for it.

I have a 34" inseam and the J-pegs are very comfortable for me.

I'm trying to compare these with the Highway Ottomans.

TIA.

For me, nada beats the Ottoman's.

I only used the J-pegs for a stretch on a long ride and the Ottoman's really do the the trick. Can you say, "Aaaaaah"?

I'm still trying to understand the Higway Ottoman -- what it looks like in use (or, how it is used).

.......and how difficult it that since I think there are some springs and small stuff?

When installing the J-pegs use a small amount of anti-seize on the posts that slide into the engine guards. They'll pop out toot sweet everytime, unless your engine guards are tweeked from dropping the bike:D

To keep the small spring/ball assembly in place, before installing on the bike, turn the J-peg over and put a leetle grease in the hole. Install spring and ball and they'll stay there.

No, sorry the regular j-pegs are not at all comfortable for me. I have the XL's and of course the custom made holes in the lower fairing.
