I went a little wild buffing something off my windscreen last season and just noticed that i buffed right through the top clear coat layer of the windscreen. It is very low on the outside of the screen about a dime in size at the moment. When my GPS is mounted It is behind the unit.
Other than... "stop buffing through the plastic dipshit"... I'm wondering of there is a way to protect that spot and stop it from getting larger or further peeling as dirt and grit start pelting in those tiny spaces.
I was thinking about a piece of clear tape cut to size of the blemish. I even considered a tiny BMW sticker as the spot is pretty center.
Is there is a poly-product for this purpose?
any advice appreciated...

My LT fell over on a Long Island Ferry Ride resulting in an I beam scraping some of the coating off in 3, 1/8" zones on the left side upper area. It has been 3 1/2 years now with no change in the appearance. I have an early 1999 unit so I do the alcohol and "Plexus" treatment a dozen times a year. With your polished feather edge of the coating I don't see why would have any problem with pealing of the coating. Stay out of sand storms and you will not see any change.

Is there is a poly-product for this purpose? Why yes...Cee Baileys makes a wonderful poly-product. It looks a lot like a new windshield . . . but it's a lot clearer than your OEM shield. And their "#2 shield" reduces the wind buffeting by 90%+.

I wish Cee Bailey, or any other aftermarket windshield manufacturer, WOULD make a "Poly" product, as in Polycarbonate. Unfortunately, they only make Acrylic, which is far less safe in an accident.
I guess having been involved in four accidents on motorcycles over the years (3 on LTs) I am quite a bit more attuned to accidents than people who have not had one, yet. ;)

My 55 mph crash in '95 was on a bike with an OEM polycarbonate shield. Thinking back, I'm not so sure it was a good thing. It did break (shatter?). I'm just fortunate that I wasn't impailed by it.
There is a new company in their infancy based out of northest Ohio that wants to make polycarbonate shields for bikes and small aircraft that does NOT scratch. I saw their display booth at the IMS show in Cleveland. VERY impressive. Imagine a shield for the LT, shaped like the CB #2, made of polycarb...yet does NOT scratch.

Small company, a pure start-up at this time, as you said. They don't have a windshield for the LT but will soon.
Their display had a windshield wiper going back and forth over the windshield... with steel wool the entire length of the wiper. No scratching.

Yep...that display was pretty impressive. Their shop is only 15 minutes from my house. I should pay them a visit this spring and find out what it would take for them to manufacture a shield for the LT.

See if they'll add the windshield wiper option as well. :D
