I've got a little over a week left before the factory warranty is out so I need to act fast. Read the post and it seems like pinnicale<sp?> was a popular plan. Anyone have a good dealer conection that I can call to get this plan?
I saw someone post that they paid $800.00 - would like to find that kind of deal. Also didn't see on the post wether or not that plan is transferable. I want a full coverage plan that can be transfered- perferably more than once.
Thanks,
TBob

I got one Interstate Star from Lonestar BMW in Austin, and Bob's BMW sells the same one. You can get the one from Bob's BMW over the phone, I went into the dealer to get the one from Lonestar. If I had signed up before the factory warranty expired it was much cheaper. I bought the bike 10 days after the factory warranty expired.

Is the Interstate Star full coverage (abs and all)? Transferable? more than once? Price?

FWIIW, LT's are expensive along with the major end items. My K2KLT had a rear end failure shortly after I sold it with 46,000 miles on it. I think it cost the new owner a grand. My 03 already has 38,000 and my plan is to ride it until the new LT is introduced in ??????. Bottom line is I went with Pinnacle that I purchased through Touring Sport in SC. I figure the rear end, ABS, or other big end item will cover the cost of the warranty.
I am trying to remember the quote a few months back "wish you would not have bought it if you do not use it and wish you would have bought it if you need it"

There is no question I'm buying one in the next week - just hoping to find the best deal.

I bought mine thru Beaudry Motorsports in Idaho. I think they write for Pennicale (m.s.?). Somewhere around $800. Ride West BMW in Seattle writes for the same plan, but I got a better price from Beaudry. Both are toll free numbers.

I bought a Pinnacle. The ABS is extra. I talked them out of the $75 surcharge for not buying it the day I bought the bike. Dealer talked me into the ABS protection. I think the total for everything including the ABS was about $900. As I always say about extended warranties....if you don't buy it you'll need it, if you do buy it you won't. Given the price of components and labor (it ain't no Harley where you can do most of it yourself), I opted for the insurance. It's just a bet. Like life insurance, the only way you can beat the house is to die early.

Interstate Star 2 years $850, ABS, Seal & Gaskets and yes it is transferable. No one would sell me Pennicale any more unless I was buying the bike from them.
The other warranties that I found didn't cover ABS or Seal & Gaskets, therefore they wouldn't cover problems with the rear drive if it was because the seal failed. I had a long discussion with the service dept. to find out which service contract actually would pay without a lot of hassles.

Bo who did you buy yours through? My local dealers wants $999.00 for the 3 year - same policy. So I guess that doesn't sound to bad, do remember what the 3 year was? Oh did you get yours before the factory warranty ran out? That makes a big difference in price.
Thanks,

Here's the quote I recieved from Pinnacle on 1/3/2006
Ronald, thanks for your interest in Pinnacle Protection Plans. You're
eligible to purchase a Plan from a Pinnacle Dealer while you still have BMW
warranty remaining. The cost for an additional 3 years should be $840 + $75
if beyond 6 months from your original warranty start date + $120 for
optional ABS coverage.
Thanks again,
Barb

If the majority of bikes covered by extended warranties required repairs equal to or greater than the cost of the warranty, the companies who offer these warranties would be doing something else for a living.
They're still in the business, so I have to conclude that the majority of bikes covered, and I extrapolate that number to the population at large, do not have catastrophic failures.
I'm totally aware that statistics don't apply to individual cases. And, to make matters worse, I come from years of trouble-free Goldwing ownership, so that undoubtedly colors my judgement. But, I made my decision not to buy extended coverage on the basis that more don't, than do. I sure hope the statistics hold true for me.

I received a quote from a Company that carrys different plans. The options and prices are listed below. It doesn't look to bad....even with ABS thrown in.
We provide extended warranties through a few companies. At this time your best options are through Interstate.
The Platinum plan is like the factory warranty and the Diamond is comparable to a bumper to bumper Warranty. If you see 3+2 that is to represent the 3 years of factory warranty that the bike came with and the 2 represents the additional years the warranty adds. If you have any questions, I will be here until 7pm today.

Thanks for all the replies - ended up getting a good deal through my local dealer...friend of a friend kind of thing. Managed to get the Interstate Star full coverage inc. abs, Zero deductable and transferable. Paid $800 for 3 years. Seems like a good policy has $30 towards a rental for up to a 3 day period. $75 towards food and lodging etc....

I opted to throw my $800 worth of extended warranty coverage into mutual funds instead. Eight months later, it's still looking like the better decision. You can tell me "I told ya so" if'n my LT should ever need more than $800 worth of work that would've been covered during the next two riding seasons.
