I recall seeing some 'talk' about clutches and chronic? problems therein. Was I dreaming  , can't seem to find them with the quick search I did.
I've barely broken in my '05 (~4300) and started to notice that after a corner / at lower RPMs (2.5-3.5K), then twisting the wrist to go the RPMs come up, but the bike seems to slowly respond :( .
Talked to my dealerships the service adviser and they'll have to have the bike to diagnose what's going on. Hate to think that the clutch is bad after such short mileage ... warranty will cover, but I really didn't expect to get a "hanger queen" . I'd appreciate anyones experience / insight / etc, on this since I haven't been able to locate the thread I recalled some clutch discussion on ...

Yep. My 05, my Dad's 05 and many others have experienced slave cylinder and or clutch failures. The first usually causes the latter via leakage onto the clutch plate. Both mine and my Dad's were at less that 2,000 miles.
I have talked to the mechanics at three different BMW shops in So Cal and it does seem to be a common failure on 05's in particular. Don't know why but once fixed they don't seem to go out again so that is the good news.
If they just do the Slave cylinder repair expect to go back for the clutch shortly there after. At least thats the way it went for me on my early 05 production bike. Now I think most dealers just go ahead and do both repairs at once.

Ride On,Like others, my '05 went out at about 1100 miles. Dealer replaced clutch and slave cylinder under warranty, of course. No hint of problems since then. I started a thread on this question last Fall; you can search this site, under threads started by me (hschisler). I'm sure you'll find others. The HoW will have tons of info.

I had one small, clear drop of oil showing on the gasket seam between the motor and the transmission so the dealership replace the entire clutch assembly and this was after 6,000 mi. I was told from the moment I purchased the LT "Never drag your clutch when you take off". I met an LT owner last year, and his clutch was replaced, at his expense, from dragging the clutch. And they are not cheap to replace at the dealership.
Cheers, Bill

Ron,
Thanks for sharing your experience, I trust that I too will have the 'good news' of no further problems. I will mention changing 'everything' out (not just the slave) when I talk to them today. See you at CCR :bmw: if not sooner!!
Ernie,
Thanks for the HOW site reference ... I haven't gotten the knack of how to maneuver around this site very well yet. Hope my clutch isn't like 'others' expressed in some of the threads as to continued problems and multiple replacements.
Howard,
Appreciate the reply ... hoping for the best!
Bill,
Thanks ... one thing, when you state "never drag the clutch when you take off", exactly what is this technique? In stop and go traffic one is on and off the clutch lever constantly, and during MSF you're taught to know / use the friction zone ... so I'm assuming you are describing a constant 'manual' slipping of the clutch??
