When I scan through the CD button, I see CD, Intercom, and AUX.

Where's the AUX IN?

Far left side, just to the left of the external speaker/headset selection button.

David,

Look back at the "AUX input on '05" posts. The connector is a .100 inch spaced dual header on the rear of the radio chassis. It is the "other one" next to where the CD cable is located. Of course if you have a factory intercom this is where IT connects and follow Ranger6's post.

I rigged up my own cable from a std header connector. It is only held in place by friction but it works fine and cost was $0. (had some in the bin).

Do you know what type of .100" connector. Is it one we can eaily get.

I don't want to remove plastic to find out, and then wait for 10 day delivery on connector.

David,

Try DigiKey PN A3034-ND. It is a non-polarized dual row with ten pins.

You have to buy the pins for it on the next page. May be cheaper to buy the BMW cable. I have the tools to crimp the pins to the wire. But at least you can see what it looks like. It is a pretty standard connector.

I have had the same question on my 03. I tried plugging my Creative Labs MP3 player into the jack on the left and had on sound. The manual isn't much help.
My com sys has the CD player (single) in the com and a 6 CD changer in the bag.
Am I doing something wrong or is the AUX input jack bad?

Can't say for sure on the Comm system equiped bikes, but if you are using the AUX plug on the rear of the radio you have to press the "CD" button until it cycles to "AUX" in the display. It may be the same with the Comm system, worth a try.

The aux input on the left front of the '03 radio only puts sound into headphones, nothing out the speakers...which is correct as per the manual.

On the J&M (mine is an '04) the AUX input is not "volume controlled" through the radio controls. In other words, you have to have a volume control on the device or in the line input to the plug.

John,
Thanks for the Digikey PN.

Do you know the pin outs- what wire goes where?

Thanks.

They made a change on the 05's. My 03 AUX sound level had to be made through the MP3 unit inserted in this access plug. On my current 05 I can now use the volume control on the handlebars to raise or lower the AUX sound level. This is nice because it also automatically adjusts the volume as I ride. Increases as I pick up speed and lowers as I decrease speed. I had an ice-link on my 03 but with this feature I never even bothered to re-install the ice-link on the 05. Just set the playlist and I get crystal clear sound either through the headsets or LT speakers. I also have the option to turn the LT speakers off and just use the headset speakers.

May we never find the end of the road!

David,

The terminals are pins:
4 -- audio ground
7 -- power ground
8 -- AUX audio in, right channel
9 -- AUX audio in, left channel
10 -- +12V power -- controlled by radio ON button

If I remember right - looking at the rear of the radio it was top left pin 6 top right pin 10 and bottom left pin 1 bottom right pin 5. It is marked in little tiny (hard to see for us OLD guys) numbers on the connector on the radio. I have a hard time finding posts so I usually copy text to a word document. I have attached the origial post data(not my work).

Ok I have no idea where the attachment went. I need to learn how to do this.

Ok,

I had too big of a file. This was originally posted by Mark Neblett and if you search you will find his post with the photos.
