I was an active participant back when this was an email digest, but I was young and foolish then. I started riding a bit more aggressively and the old LT was scraping all the time, I hated buying tires every time I turned around, and the thing was so top-heavy that I kept dropping it. So I sold it and bought a K1200RS. Well, that really wasn't my style, it was too aggressive, so I sold it too. And took a break.

And got the bug again, so I bought a nice used RT, which I've now had for two years. It's nice, it's fun, but SWMBO doesn't like riding on it because she can't see over or around me, and so bumps and turns catch her by surprise. So I thought... hmmmm... maybe we should try an LT. And so we did. And she liked it (not a big surprise). I'm not laying out 20 large for a second bike, so I found a nice (well, fairly nice) used 2002 Standard in the local paper. Went to look at it, it was not pristine, dirty, filthy wheels, been dropped several times (owner claimed they were all tip-overs) but everything worked, the 12K service had been done, two new tires, and it was, afterall, an LT. It's going to be dropped. They all do that. :-)

I'm a little embarrased to admit what I offered for it. But that's all that I wanted to pay. I want to keep the RT, at least for a while. The seller was 73 years old (damn, I hope I'm still riding when I'm his age!) and he'd gotten to the point where he just wasn't comfortable riding in traffic, couldn't pick up the bike anymore, and so it was time to go.

And so I picked it up Saturday, in the rain, and took it home. Now it's all clean and dry and warm sitting next to the RT, both bikes have chargers and are getting along just fine.

And it's farkle time, again. We need some more lights, we need to wire up the garage door opener, headlight modulator, I need to find some way to heat the passenger seat and backrest, and are the Standard models pre-wired for the CD changer?

Oh, and he gave me some of his stuff, including a BMW heated vest, size XXL. I am a medium, at best, so this isn't going to have a chance in fitting me. How much do these things sell for new? This one is almost new, how much should I ask for it?

Thanks all, and welcome (me) back!

Michael

Michael, the 02 should have heated passenger seat and backrest as standard equipment. is it a stock seat or an aftermarket? ...thinking that perhaps the previous owner made some modifications...

Welcome back! I was going to take my CD Changer out, and replace it with satellite radio. I guess I could try to sell it. :)

Michael,

Been there, done that, to an extent. I had never test ridden a K-LT, so I hadn't known what I was missing. I had bought a K-GT as my tourer and it did burn up the highway miles. But I could just never get it to fit me quite right, and in the end it just had a little too high a power-to-weight ratio for my needs/riding style.

So when I rode the K-LT, I was in love from the first moment. Smoothness of the K, seating position like the R-RT, and seemingly easier to turn than my K-GT. Left the K-GT and rode home on the K-LT that very day, and have never looked back.

Just went for my first little Sunday morning ride yesterday on the K (first shot at good weather since I bought it). What a grand ride! Got home before I knew it, and found that I had run 160 miles, without ever feeling it. Ready to climb back on and do it a couple more times. What a bike!

Sorry Michael...but we simply cannot just welcome you back with open arms. You have betrayed us...AND the beloved LT. If you think you can just go out and simply buy another one and everything's going to be "OK"...well, you have another think comin'!!! http://users.telenet.be/eforum/emoticons4u/violent/nutkick.gif

First, you must strip nekkid, then be tossed into the 'Ring of Insult', whilst being beaten with a wet noodle 50 times. Then, and only then can we welcome you back. You have been BAD Michael...very bad. http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoticons4u/sad/1004.gif

Or....just send me some money and we'll forget the whole thing. :D :D :D

As long as you're not the "hero" that cussed us all out, burned his bridges and proceeded to tell us all just how lame we were on his way out the door.

You'll find that most of us are happy to have you back. oh prodigal one.

After all you're entitled to change your mind, my wife does, sometimes several times a day.
