So how many LT farkle freaks like to get dirty and be adventurous? Now that I finally broke down a test road GS I'm sooooooooooooo hooked.:bmw: Within 5 days of the test ride I bought an 05 R1200GS, and in the last two weeks put about 2000 miles on her. Including a trip to Death Valley - picture attached.
I have named my GS "Radio Flyer" , because it reminds my of my first little red wagon that I could fly down a hill way to fast and have to make a curve that I could not possibly make - but I know that I will. I haven't had a smile this big since I road my first LT.:D

How many GS owners do we have here on BMWLT land???

Well, I first became hooked on BMWs in Feb 05' My first Beemer was an 05 GS. In Apr 05' I purchased an 05' RT and was completely satisfied. Last fall the boss (my wife) felt that she would really like to ride two up and if you don't know by now you soon will an RT is not really designed for two up riding unless you are small in stature. At 6'-3" and pushing 300 I do not consider myself small... go figure. In October of las year I traded the RT in on an 06' LT. Prior to becoming hooked on BMWs I have owned Honda's and Kawasaki's.

The GS currently has 9900 plus miles on it, the RT had 9600 plus miles on it when I traded it in on the LT which has 3300 or so miles. Not bad for living in Colorado. The reason for the high mileage on the GS and RT is that my son-in-law and me went on a 4100 mi. Canada trip in 11 days. The LT has been in Nebraska, Wyoming and of course Colorado.

The GS is being prepped for a trip to Alaska some time in the next year or two. The GS is currently equipped with customized Ohlins shocks and Remus/Z-Technic exhaust. The underside has skid plates from the engine to the/including center stand. A full set of BMW panniers and top case. PIAA 910s help to illuminate the country side when daylight begins to wane. The windscreen was changed out to an oversized Cee Baileys. That was neccessary due to my petite size. Other amenities include an RCU shelf for additional equipment, gauges, and Garmin 2720 GPS. Other than routine maintenance and a new set of Metzlers very little has been done to the bike.

The RT was/is a nice bike but there was something about the I did not like. I can't explain it but I was just not as enthralled about it as much as with the GS. Other than routine maintenance and a set of Metzlers I did nothing to the bike.

The LT well lets just say is an a league by itself. As far as agility and outright acceleration it will never be a GS nor do I expect it to. The GS is like an old nag, rough tough and will be around for a long time. When it comes to terrorizing the the streets and the dirt get back Jack. The LT on the other hand is as many of you know, a fine handling machine that you take to the Ball.

The LT has many farkles. PIAAs, GPS, Muth mirrors, Backup back rest, armrests, and satellite radio. Additional changes include Ohlins suspension and maybe a Remus exhaust.

This may sound funny but it often becomes a coin toss as to which bike I will ride for the day.

First BMW I ever fell in love with was a 2002 GS Adventure. Took some time before I could afford it (or at least until I got used to BMW bike pricing), so I added this one to the stable last fall. I was pretty sure that I would use it for those eventual trips up the ALCAN, or down into Northern Mexico, but I'm having so much fun on the LT now, maybe she deserves the Alsaka trip...

Fortunately (or not) I should have plenty of time to make up my mind.

I am trading the LT for a GSA when they are available....can't have both, but looking forward to a different ride. I am sure I will have another LT in the garage someday soon.....maybe for my 30th birthday!!
I was also hooked after the test ride....light, torquey(sp), and fun to ride!!

Here's my "late" GS about 150 miles up the Dempster. New one is exactly the same except it has wire instead of cast wheels.

My LT doesn't get ridden much any more... :(

Well, I got a 2005 Red one in October.

This pick is the day I picked it up. (I do ride ATGATT, my stuff was inside while getting insurance, etc settled).

Since then, I've added CeeBaily +2wide +4Tall and throttlemeisters.

I have Zega bags, Oil cooler cover, headlight cover, and side stand plate from Touratech/Cycoactive due to be delivered this week.

It is a done deal...

I know that I am going to miss the LT, but at 29 years of age I am looking to have a little fun. I am planning on using the GS for everything that I have done with the LT, but a lil' more..... I am probably not looking at doing what 50% of the guys do with adv's bikes, but I hope that it caters to my 6'8" frame a little nicer.

I already fixed the radio, cruise, and lighting problems on the expected/soon to arrive GS!!!

I'm just tall enough (6'5") that I feel cramped on most bikes. My R1150GS is the first bike that really feels like it was made for me. It will never replace the LT for long distance comfort, but it is just plain fun to ride. It's not our choice for 2-up riding, but when I ride to work in the Summer it is extremely easy to ride in stop and go traffic. Did I mention it is really run to ride?

I agree with Dan. I'm also 6'5" and have installed extended J-Pegs and Suburban Machine Peg Relocators on my LT so it now feels pretty good. But my R1150GS Adventure felt great without any modifications. It is a blast to ride and never fails to turn heads, even among the Harley crowd! Just installed a ZTechnik titanium exhaust on the Adventure and picked up a little more HP and torque, plus it sounds better now. I look forward to putting more miles on it as the weather gets warmer. Ride safe.

I was too scared to part with the LT on trade....I kept the LT and will be adding the GS when she comes in. (I have one unhappy female companion in the house tonight)

I just don't understand why my friends give me hell for owning what they call a "couch", when they love the look of her and wish they could take the journies on their HD 883's...

Now I have the best of both worlds....GS and LT!!!

My buddy and his wife, me and my wife just came back from 8 days in Big Bend area. He's 64 and I'm 60. The GS1200's did great and with the Pirate Lairs backrest on them, the Wives loved them.

I'm beginning to like my GS more and more ( 7,000 miles) I have to tell you, at first I thought I made a huge mistake. Until you understand its a twin, and until you fine tune your suspension, it made it very difficult to ride on the slab on a windy day in traffic. Around town and in the dirt it was always fun.

Any way, its probably a keeper

I'm with you John, the GS puts a smile on my face like a kid at christmas.
As some of you saw, I had my 02 GSA at CCR this year. About a month after CCR I rode it down to Cabo annnnnnnnd, wrecked it! :(
I overcooked an unmarked curve on a dirt road and hucked it down a 30 ft. embankment into an arroyo. Squarshed it good! I was lucky and walked with a sprained wrist and some scratches.
I really miss that bike! I'd put about 10k mi on in under 6 mo. We really had made friends! :o

I'm keeping an eye on the ads now for a replacement. If I don't find a sweet deal by spring, I may pop for the new 12 ADV. :D

Hey, Keith - get in touch with Jim or Hank at Rhinewest (210.826.0014) and lettum know you're hankerin' for another GSA. They take a few scoots in on consignment, mostly RS, RT or GS types; put 'em on the front showroom floor; and they're usually gone in relatively short order. I don't drop in real regular like, butt when I do, they've turned over inventory. I have no idea how/when/where they market their stuff, butt they seem to git-er-done. And they're quite selective on the condition of the scoots they accept - course, with Hank around, you know they passed the physical. Just a suggestion for when you're breakin' serious 'gotta have' sweat!!

Man, I love my GS. Have probably put 200 miles on the LT in the 15 months I have had the GS... Still love that LT, but am seriously considering selling...

At least in the last month or so the snow in coastal Nor Cal (within 50 miles of the ocean) has stopped.

My biggest issue recently has been that I have had to re-learn how to ride... on dry roads! Nice to be able to lean into turns again (at least occasionally when we get a break in the rains).
