It was not that dark, just the cheap camera I got, there was more light. Now the rain is real and that was on part called the Hellbender. The rest enjoy.

As you see in picture, there was no "outside, inside, outside" path of travel. It was whatever vehicles cleared the path in front. It was interesting.

Back in the late fall of the early 70's I was in that area on my Harley,
I took what I thought was a shortcut because it was getting late,
by the time I got to the dam overlook it was dark, cold and starting to rain.
What a miserable road to ride in the dark, I didn't think it would ever end,
I thought I was in hell and couldn't wait to get of that mountain.
And I don't feel much different about that overrated stretch of road to this day.
Then somebody bought the restaurant and made it into a motorcycle campground
and started advertising it as "the Dragon"
and all of the "wannabe's" came from all over
just for a chance to be seen on the internet
and the "hype" goes on and on! What a farce!

I've ridden much more difficult roads in much worse conditions, and simply enjoyed the challenge of it. In fact, I'm usually the guy heading into the thunderstorm on my third or fourth tank of gas while others are looking for the nearest motel or at least some place dry. No biggie.
As for the Dragon, it was fun to ride once or twice. I don't have much sympathy for the posers (cruisers or crotch rockets), but it was an enjoyable, if very brief ride. Although I much prefer some of our western roads such as Highway 36 in NorCal or Highway 12 in MT/ID, which are just as twisty but last for 100 miles or more. :bike:

I suppose a large part of it is the attitude that you bring. :) :bike:Well you're right about that one,
from what I remember of that "first" dragon ride, I was looking for a "shortcut" to get back to my tent.
I was wet, cold, tired, hungry and horny! (I was in my early 20's) :)
That was way back when cold weather gear consisted of long johns under my jeans
and I couldn't stand to have a windshield on my bike.
I've come a long way since then, but still don't like 129.
