With CCR coming to Vermont next year, I'd like to have a later model final drive on the shelf ready for someone with a FD failure on the way to CCR. (I have a pre-01/2001 spare already).
If someone has a trashed final drive, the kind with no hole for the speedometer sensor, part # 33117661909, fitted on K1200LTs with a build date after 01/2001, I think these are 2002 and later model years, please consider donating it. I'll rebuild it and keep it ready to ship or deliver in case of a FD meltdown on the way to CCR next year.
If you have such a drive you are willing to donate, please send me a msg on this board.
Thanks

Curtis,
Could the rebuild be a winter time tech session for the BBD's? Or would we all just get in the way?

ThanksI have a spare 05 drive I got off Flea-bay that is missing one of the conical bearings. I want to have it handy in case someone local needs a drive in a hurry. However I can ship it to you shortly before CCR next year so it will be available for the event.
Let me know if that will work with your plans.

What do you mean by one of the "conical bearings"? Are you talking about one of the two pivot bearing that mounts the final drive to the swing arm?
Or the tapered roller bearing which is internal to the drive at the outboard end of the crown wheel assembly?
Thanks.

I am talking about a pivot bearing.
Okay, thanks for the explaination. Someone could use that drive just by swapping the pivot bearing off their bike. Since it is a functioning drive and doesn't need rebuild, why don't you just hang onto it.
It is great that you are willing to be part of the network of folks on this board ready to ship a drive to a fellow rider broken down on the road.
Thanks :thumb:

Thanks :thumb:I would only pay back the kindness granted to me when my FD was leaky and John Zeiler lent me his spare so Kathy and I could make it back home with peace of mind.
Let me know if you want me to ship the drive to you just before CCR 2010. ;)

I have a pre 2002 final drive for a spare. As far as I know, it is in good condition. I bought it from Tony at LTparts.com, before he actually started the business. I believe it came off his 2000 LT that was totaled. I understand the pre 2002 drives are hard to come by. I would be more than willing to sent it out to you prior to the CCR if you think you need another on hand. I am hopefull I won't be needing it before hand. I know you are looking for a 2002 or newer one, but just wanted to offer it it is needed.

I still think it's pretty sad that you have to stock up on final drives. :-(
I'd donate mine (2002) but it's still attached to the bike, which is for sale. Hard to sell the bike without one. I'm finding out it's hard to sell the bike WITH one!
