Ok all of you folks who live in or around the St Louis and/or Cape Girardeau area; since 64 is closed (in parts) coming from the East. is there an easy way to bypass St Louis coming up from I-24 out of Nashville?
I am looking at taking I-55 then hitting I-270 around SL, but which route is good to get over to 55?
Thanks in advance Y'ALL!

Why don't you follow our route we took last year? That got us around St Louis

I thought about that, but I want to make some time and slab it as much as I can. We are hoping to make St Joseph the first night out so we will have a short 350 mile ride on into to Sioux Falls (visit my Dad).
We will leave from there on Monday and head to CCR.

The closing of 64 has been of minor inconvenience in the city. There are easy routes which really add none to very little time to your travels. If you are coming from the east on 64, once you get to the Mississippi River downtown take I-70 continuing west, (I-64 eventually terminates into I-70 about 30 miles down the road anyway). Or if you want to bypass most of downtown, take the 255 north to 270 west bypass and go around the city, again you will not lose much time using this route either. I commute 25 miles through downtown on a daily basis using I-70 and it has not added any time. It usually takes 30 minutes to drive the 25 miles.

I will coming through Nashville via I-24W; I was looking at taking Hwy 146/3 to I-255 to I-270 to I-70 West. Looks like a neat route, but again, I don't want to hit every rinky dink town for 200 miles!

I usually cut over at Paducah to Cairo and then cross the river at Cape G and run up I-55 then 270 to 70. Lots of trucks on I55 but traffic moves well, most of time I'm coming through their at night.
YMMV

We'll be coming from Nashville on I-24. Mapquest and Map Source both route us onto I-57, then to I-64, crossing the river, getting onto I-70 and going on from there. Where is I-64 closed? Looking at the maps, crossing the river south of St. Louis near Cape G, like Jeff suggested, doesn't look like a bad idea. The roads appear to be 2 lane, but being in BFE, probably aren't overcrowded. That southern route added a few miles, but depending on time of day, might be less time.

I 64 is closed about 5 miles further west past the river. The switch to I 70 is not near the closure by 5 miles.

Thanks for the info, Mark. Looks like we'd be ok going through or dodging St. Louis.
