Hola guys (and gals) como esta?

Well, where do I start. May 23 was my wife's birthday and we had an ice cream at Marble Slad. The 24th I made the long three mile ride to church and filled up on the way home. The next day I had to run a few errands and when I got home I had 12 miles on the trip meter. The day after, my back went out and I spend three weeks on the floor. It's nothing new and I have been putting off surgery for a while. I had the regular Dr. give me some steroid pills and the Dr. who gives me the epidural shots was on vacation so the pills would cover for me. Started to feel a lot better but they do mess with my mind. I become an angry person with a short fuse. I do NOT like how they make me feel.
finished up the pills and on July 5th I went with our Church to camp with the kids. Well, I guess I did too much in that week so when we got back in Thursday evening I was in the hospital Friday morning. I had another blood clot. I got to eat hospital food for a week. I am home now and REALLY on a lot of restrictions. The bike has been parked since the last of May and it looks like it will stay that way for a while longer. The back Dr, will not even look at me now because of the blood thinners so back pain is here to stay along with the pain from the clot. THe clot pain will slowly go away and the back is also something I have been dealing with for a long time so I know how to deal with that.
But, I woke up this morning so I do have another day!!! As soon as I get past the danger part, I can at least drive a car so I will be out and about for the next RTE.
C'ya than...

Damn, Michael - helluva way to interfere with the riding season in Victoria. Never knew someone who endures the pain you do, and still manages to grin and slobberdribble!! Me thinks Rhonda is gonna have to start given ya a rope-a-dope whuppin' when you git on them asteroids! :)

Take good care - stay outta trouble ( I know that's hard for you to do!!!), and obey Rhonda and the Docs (mainly Rhonda!!), and if you need Belle excercised, call Shreeve to come pick her up and deliver her to Boerne. We'll take her from there!!! ;)

Hell, I didn't even ride ole Toad to breakfast with you and Sammie this mornin' - don't know what my problem is. Weather wimp, I guess. I looked at NOAA this morning 'bout 0400, and it sure looked like storms barreling outta the panhandle and heading towards the breakfast cafe. Asked Monte if he minded we take ole Thundra, cuz I wuzn't ready to give ole Toad a bath (**). So he shows up on his MP3 and gives Cheryl the key to it in case she wants to go shopping ( ), and off we go to meet y'all for breakfast. Back to the casa and nary a drop of rain! Oh, well.

BTW - Coleman called me from the RTE. Said they ran outta Dallas and hit some rain on 45 in a coupla spots. Keith kept everythang upright and on the road this time, butt Pie musta worked up a nervous appetite, cuz she ate a slice before lunch AND one after!!! :histerica

(**) Speakin' of giving ole Toad a bath. Lola needs one pretty much NOW. Would lighten the load on them new Ohlins you put on!! ;) Course now, it's pretty easy to pick ole Lola out of the crowd!! Kinda earth colored, with some buggutz scattered about!!! :p

Hey, Bones - sorry 'bout hijackin' your thread. Git yourselvis well and git on up here on Belle and let's ride!! Be pullin' for ya.

I'm doing alright. Just bored from sitting and lying on the floor all day. I see the Dr. on Wednesday and hopefully she will let me up for a bit more. The back is a come and go but it's been like that for a while.

Bones,

You are an inspiration. I have been feeling really down a few times during the last 18month for reasons that really don't amount to anything when I read of your issues.
Sometimes I (we) forget that if you have your health and your family and friends, everything else is just window dressing.

I knew all along that you were often in pain. I surely have never seen anything but a big smile and good spirits out of you. It is that attitude that will get you back on your feet and eventually back on your bike. And ultimately, its not the riding, but the friends you make while you ride. And you have those already.

Like your other friends on here, I would love to help out if I can. PM or call me anytime.

Get better soon, prime riding season is only a couple of month away, and I enjoy riding with you.

ya know Bones, for someone in his 80s, you aren't doing too bad! But for someone YOUR age....ouch! Bad backs are a pain in the ....back and I've got the scar to prove it. Good news is these days it is a fairly easy (comparatively) procedure. The blood clot scares me a bunch more than the back though so take it easy and get weller!

Well Bones, no wonder we haven't seen you around in a while. Good grief man - take care of yourself, stay down and listen to your doctors. Mr. Pie battles his back quite a bit so I know the routine. Best thing for that is rest . . . and patience. Don't rule out the surgery - it may not sound like fun but it might be the ticket to getting you back on your feet, on your bike oh and ummmm outta Rhonda's hair (ha ha).

Praying for you - we are here if you need anything. Just say the word (and no, the word isn't PIE!)

Bones, sorry to hear about your back giving you problems. I too know something about that. Best thing for that is rest and patience. Also, remember to do the exercises to strengthen the back muscles. Take care and get well.

Bones think about that for a minute........The Pie Princess giving advice on "Rest & Patience" and then think about poor Keith.

There...now don't you feel all better now?

OK, had a visit to the Dr. yesterday. Going to try an MRI on Wednesday but might have to do a CAT scan. I have a titanium rod in my leg but I think they used Stainless Steel for the screws. It will mess up the MRI. Depending on what it shows, I am looking at back surgery in the near future.
I am also going to have (I hope I say this right) vain stripping done where I had my last clot. No time frame on that yet other than I have to stay on the Cumiden (blood thinners) for at least a cople months before any surgery will be done.
Thanks for the prayers, thoughts, and candles!!!!!!

Best of luck with all of it my friend.

Why would they use stainless screws if they were putting in a titanium rod? That doesn't make any sense, but then.....
