Guys
I swear Ive searched the forum and am just finding that I dont have time to continue to try and read throuh all the possible threads. (I read one that suggested 40k which just didnt sound right to me. ) Any chance some on the board would have mercy on me and just share what you have experienced as normal mileage before needing to replace back and front brake pads?? Please.
Thanks
AK

Depends greatly on your riding style and ultimately your aggressiveness. I tend to get 8-10K but I ride-it-like-I-stole it! I tend to get maybe the same out of the rear tire as well. I put an Avon Storm on about 3K ago, and I swear I'm a little past the half way point (not measured). I ride with a SAFE group, they hardly ever have had to replace their pads. Just find a good aftermarket (I have EBC) keep the contact number and have a spare set on hand. Rinse...lather...repeat!

I have the original pads on my 05 and just turned 49K miles. Had them out recently and compared them to a new set and they (my original set) still have close to 1/3 thickness left.
go figure

I replaced pads at CCR Tan Tara as part of the demo (my expense) at 26K. Much more than 50% left.
Riding style will eat pads and tires. I do the LD thing and just cruise on! :bike:

Rear pads about every 15 to 18K I;m on my 3rd set.
Front was only changed once at about 45K

It is completely variable based on your style of riding and the pads you use. Check them at every 6K service for wear and replace when needed.

Maybe you should try using the front brake, that sounds just about backwards to me. :D

David I use the front brake 90 % of the time. My LT is a 2000 / Non Linked brakes. I don't know why the rear wear out so fast.

What? 26k! I get like 10k on my front EBC pads. Does EBC wear out faster than the BMW pads or is this just cause I live in the city??

I live in FL and travel out of FL. 78,000 miles on my '06 with original pads.

That is strange. On my 99 I went through fronts like candy, changes the rears about every other time.

Original front pads went 55K miles.
At 55K miles, the rear pads were only half worn out.

Just changed the rear w/ EBC @ 37,000, had 3/64" left, front still OK w/ 2/3 left.
The EBC seems to put out more dust than the original BMW so I will check @ every oil change.
BUT...THE REAR BRAKE NOISE IS GONE!!

This is the same conversation we have Mercedes Benz customers constantly.
Here is our standard answer:
If you drive from Houston to Dallas and back you have driven about 500 miles and used your brakes about 40 to 50 times.
You drive from The Woodlands to downtown Houston and back about 12 times and you have also covered about 500 miles, but have used your brake about 400 to 500 times.
As a result we see anything from less than 20,000 miles to over 60,000 miles.
Same on any car, truck, or bike

Thanks so much for all of the replys. I think the lesson here is that the variation in when the pads go is so broad that the best guidance is to check them every 6k which is what Ill do. Just need to get level set on my understanding of the process and then execute. Great forum. THANKS!
