I'm taking a trip to ride around ME and NH, and would rather not ride slab to get there. Has anyone found a fun way to get up to ME from NJ?

This is a late response- you might have already left. But if you haven't-
Get yourself to Troy NY by your choice of back roads.
Take Rt 7 east. At the VT line it becomes Rt 9. Continue through Bennington on 9 east to Wilmington turn left onto Rt 100 north. Turn right onto 4 east at Bridgewater continue on 4 until West Lebanon, NH.
Then Rt 10 north to Orford. Turn right onto Rt 25A east. Then turn left onto Rt 25 north to Warren. There turn right onto Rt 118 (LOTS of twists and turns- some rough road). That ends at Rt 112. turn right onto Rt 112 east. That is the Kancamagus Highway- take that through Lincoln (get gas there if low) and continue on Rt 112 to Conway. Nice views on the 'Kanc.
After that- LOTS of back roads to get you to the coast or up north in Maine. You choose. Avoid long sections of Rt 302 or Rt 2- busy with traffic.
Any other input needed? Just ask me. Good luck with your trip.
