I was checking out Southwest Moto Tires Web site and they list the bias Bridgestone’s BT020 120/70B-17 front. 160/70B-17 rear, both for the 2005 LT only? I have a 01 and would like to try the bias Bridgestone tires. Any ideas why the bias tires are for the 2005 only??

My next new set of tires for my '02 will be the B-Stone Bias-Ply. I don't think you'll find anyone that'll give you a good reason why it would be a "bad thing" to mount them on a pre'05 LT.

A lot of us have tried them with no ill effects. I have about 8k on them right now on my 2000. I like them and will purchase another set when its time.

Can't answer your question but thanks for sharing where to find these tires. I have these on my 05 LT. The local BMW dealer does not carry them, only the radials and was unsure where to locate Bias Belted. I have run Metzler's on my last few m/c's with no complaints but this is my first experience with Bridgestone. They have less road noise, smooth running and really stick to the road compared against the Metzler. Just my opinion from years of running Metzler's. I only have about 1800 miles on my new LT but I want a backup set, in the event I pickup a nail or get some road damage etc. I will just pack them away in my garage till I need them or do my annual long haul trip later this summer. Thinking about doing the Black Hills, but not during Sturgis. Looks like a great price and no shipping charge. I just placed my order. Thanks for doing my search for me.

May we never find the end of the road!

Most likely it is a legal thing. Those tires haven't been out long so they probably only had them tested on the 05.

I have the BT020 Bias tires on my '02 LT now. At 11K miles, the rear is down to the wear bars, compared to about 9K with the BT020 Radials. The front has tread left, but has started to cup, mostly because I dropped it to 36 psi for a track day and just never pumped it back up.

I think I'll order a couple sets of the Avon Radial front and BT020 Radial rear and keep one set in the garage. That should get me to CCR.

BTW, I've always had great service from swmototires.com in the past. I tried a couple of other online sources and had problems both times, so I'll stick with what works for me.

My 2001 LT is due for a rear tire. I think I will stick with the Metzler 880's. I haven't heard a compelling reason to change ...anyone have any comments?

The suspension geometry changed on the 05 and newer LT requiring the bias tire. The angle of the front rake to be exact. The 05 LT is referred as the ...LT-M on BMW's parts catalog. Bias or Radial shouldn't be a problem on the earlier LTs

Metzler 880's are a great tire for the LT,, To switch to Bridgestone will not make a real big difference... I have normal mortal sensations so I can not feel the subtle difference... I will continue to run the Metzler, it works....

The "M" on the model is a early designation between Europe having a 2004 model where we in the states went straight to the 2005 model year............Regards Pete

The BT020 radials fit for the K1200LT were discontinued. If you want the BT's, you can only get the bias ply (unless you found an old pair).
